NEW YORK (AP) - Mix blatant bigotry with poor spelling. Add a dash of ALL CAPS. Top it off with a violent threat. And there you have it: A recipe for the worst of online comments, scourge of the Internet.
Blame anonymity, blame politicians, blame human nature. But a growing number of websites are reining in the Wild West of online commentary. Companies including Google and the Huffington Post are trying everything from deploying moderators to forcing people to use their real names in order to restore civil discourse. Some sites, such as Popular Science, are banning comments altogether.

The Huffington Post is also clamping down on vicious comments. In addition to employing 40 human moderators who sift through readers' posts for racism, homophobia, hate speech and the like

That’s really going to cut into the comment content on HuffPo, maybe 99%.
“Racism” - pointing out or even mentioning negative aspects of the urban culture.
“Homophobia” - expressing less than total approval of the homosexual lifestyle.
“hate speech” - expressing a biblical worldview.
The really offensive crap proposed by the left often doesn’t allow comments. Our masters don’t like people opposing them even through speech.

It actually has. When I heard about it, I cruised over to HuffPost and noted that whereas before there would be hundreds of comments now they routinely come in at less than 100. Even hot topic stories/commentaries are only pulling 200 to 300 comments.
And all of this against the back drop of the recent story that AOL which bought HuffPost still hasn’t had a profitable year with HuffPost.
We don’t allow profanity or violent threats here, either.
That isn’t what this is about and you know it.

Pretty much most websites have the rules of conduct now.
Again, this isn’t about that. It’s about the left controlling what can be said.

Exactly. This is to control opinion and information wrapped in the guise of “protecting” posters from being offended.
Free speech is something that we treasure, as is enshrined in the US Constitution, in the Bill of Rights. But what people must realize on the Internet is that there exists NO SUCH THING as free speech on the various forums, no matter what forum you may be talking about.
Whenever someone starts talking about “free speech” in regards to an Internet forum, I know they have no idea what they’re talking about ... :-) ...
