'Duck Dynasty' has a new fan
American Thinker ^ | Silvio Canto

A&E ran a bunch of "A Duck Dynasty" shows on Sunday. I finally sat down and watched a couple of them.

First, it is hilarious. You got these "ZZ Top bearded guys" with beautiful wives, a successful business and a wonderful sense of humor. Uncle Si is the greatest "TV uncle" since Uncle Charlie in "My 3 sons"! That fellow SI is a superstar!

Second, Grandpa Phil, the man in the middle of the controversy, looks like the kind of guy that you want to go hunting with. His wife, Miss Kay, is exactly the kind of woman you want cooking your next holiday meal. She loves dogs and spoils her grandchildren.

Third, the brothers, or the guys who run the business, are funny and treat their employees very well. Wonder how many people watching this show wished that they had a boss like "brother CEO"?

Fourth, I saw the Christmas play episode. We enjoyed the family putting a Nativity play at church and treating their friends to food and gifts.

There are a lot of people like the Robertsons in the south, probably everywhere else too. They are good family people who contribute a lot to the nation, from creating jobs to keeping our traditions intact.

One of the show’s tenets that radiates out to the audience, is the part about clinging to their guns and bibles. The illegal alien in the white hut described “us” as bitterly clinging to our guns and Bibles. Au contraire, we are happily, happily, happily clinging, enshrined, protected, surrounded, enthralled to/with our guns and bibles. We are Phil Robertson, we are Jim Thompson, we are Spartacus, etc... There’s a tad more to the show than meets the eye. We get it. This show isn’t dad’s late model oldsmobile, or redneck, knuckle dragging, hillbilly, stereotype, archetype, all hat, family show.

There’s 24 hours in a day so what one does to relax or unwind may include a stint in front of the telly. What one choses to watch is a personal decision. There are huge swaths of electrons beaming into America’s homes forming into shows that are full of garbage. This show isn’t one of them.

Try taking it from the perspective not substituting real life for watching the show, rather when deciding to sit down, relax and watch a show, compare this to the other choices.

Yes, I’m sort of crossing a line in that I’m dissing other people’s form of entertainment just because I don’t like it. Sorry about that.

Merchandise: Duck Dynasty gear is owned by A+E. Duck Commander gear is owned by the Robertsons.

FYI

Don’t you remember his parting gift of the Obamascare commercial right before he died? He was such a POS.

Never liked Three Stooges or I Love Lucy. Guess I’m missing a funny bone somewhere.

What is so ironic about some of the characters is that they ARE educated and have backgrounds that would surprise you; looks can be deceiving. For instance ould you have ever guessed Si attended Louisiana Tech University, was in the military or 25 years and married or over 40 years to the same woman? Or for that matter Phil having attended the same college and played football and putting Terry Bradshaw on the bench then later getting a Master’s degree In Education? The liberals will be spewing greenpea soup any minute now...

Though it was a lefty show I love this quote from 'Designing Women':

"I'm saying this is the South. And we're proud of our crazy people. We don't hide them up in the attic. We bring 'em right down to the living room and show 'em off. See, Phyllis, no one in the South ever asks if you have crazy people in your family."

You would rather watch the Wonderful Whites of WV than DD?

To each his own I guess, but the Whites of WV are completely dysfunctional and criminal, while the Robertson's are a good all American Family.

I watched it once. I watched parking wars once. I watched storage wars once. Most of those shows are interesting - once.

But I just don’t find the “watching a family lead their daily lives” show interesting. Others do, though. And what made it painful was knowing that they are contrived events. It’s not even real. It makes it fiction. If I’m gonna watch fiction, I want a much better script and better actors. I enjoyed Oh Brother Where Art Thou. It had beards. :-)

Sort of like watching the Three Stooges and I Love Lucy combined with a twist of wholesome family values and a touch of religion. You know they’re really not that dumb and just putting on a show but you just get sucked in anyway and yeah they are naturals.

The show was meant to be a reality show that made digs at “Southern Rednecks” in the name of the liberal agenda....

What happened was that is re-introduced some of the lost wholesome values that people inthe modern society have lost and don’t realize they have lost and thus the souless people who have watched it, some of them have rediscovered some fo that lost birthright that was stripped away from them by the broken culture.

I think Duck Dynasty in a whole was the largest liberal backfire in recent history. It was meant to mock the “country folk” and instead re-introduced some lost part to the masses.....

Phil went to LSU, played quarterback and has a PHD. Terry Bradshaw has said he was really, really good at football. The others have college degrees too.
