Rex Tillerson, CEO of Exxon Mobil, sent a letter to Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett in May with a veiled threat to move operations out of the state if Corbett does not implement the controversial Common Core standards in Pennsylvania schools.
However, I was disappointed to learn of the misinformation opponents of this critical effort are advancing, which subsequently led your administration to delay its implementation. I urge you to make the necessary clarifications quickly and move forward with the Pennsylvania Common Core.

I believe Exxon is a major contributor to radical leftist advocacy groups and they are probably forced to do that to curry favor with the political establishment.
But aside from contributions I find it difficult to understand how the CEO would explain at a shareholder’s meeting how ‘Common Core’ is crucial to the business objectives of the company. And I could show up at a shareholder’s meeting and ask the question so it’s not like the CEO can escape responding to these questions.

5/29/2013 – For the 14th straight year, ExxonMobil shareholders overwhelmingly rejected by 81% a proposition to incorporate into the company’s written non-discrimination policy language explicitly prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The ExxonMobil Board of Directors, in a proxy statement, recommended that shareholders vote against the proposal: “The Board has reviewed in detail ExxonMobil’s existing global policies that prohibit all forms of discrimination, including those based on sexual orientation and gender identity, in any Company workplace, anywhere in the world. In fact, ExxonMobil’s policies go beyond the law and prohibit any form of discrimination. Based on these existing all-inclusive, zero-tolerance policies, the Board believes the proposal is unnecessary.”
9/27/2013 – Exxon Mobil Corp. announced that it would begin offering benefits to legally married same-sex couples in the U.S. for the 1st time starting next week. The company said it would recognize "all legal marriages" when it determines eligibility for health care plans for the company's 77,000 employees and retirees in the U.S. That means if a homosexual employee has been married in a state or country where homosexual marriage is legal, his or her spouse will be eligible for benefits with Exxon in the U.S. as of 10/01/2013. Exxon, which is facing a same-sex discrimination complaint in Illinois, said it was following the lead of the U.S. government.
When you get favors worth hundreds of millions of dollars you don’t have to be forced into much of anything and the stockholders aren’t likely to complain either.

I disagree. XOM’s stock performance has been statistically flat during one of the biggest government created stock bubbles in history. In fact for the most part of 2013 the stock price tumbled down while the exchanges were recording new highs. Although it has recovered it has not surged as most other stocks have.
Plenty of stockholders are certain to ask this CEO why he feels it’s important to the company to be threatening a governor over something called ‘Common Core’ which has nothing to do with the company’s objectives. And government favors or any money favors are never on the books of the company, they would be in company subsidiary slush funds that the BOD and senior execs have access to. Shareholders would never see them.

Man, I was on Big Business’s side when the dems were out to get them, but they are part of the problem. No soul.
It also exposes the stupidity of apparently smart people. Why does Rex Tillerson push for common core? He's under the delusion that common core will improve government schools. Stupidity on stilts. And why does the Exxon/Mobil CEO make common core his hill to fight on. That's Exxon's top priority? Really? What do Exxon/Mobil stockholders think?
And the idea that Exxon/Mobil is going to leave Pennsylvania and the Marcellus Basin is ludicrous.
sent an email telling him to keep is trap shut about PA. And i won’t be buying his gas anymore (not that i did all that much) Also stated that maybe a criminal investigation is in order for trying to influence a public official. Bribes don’t seem to be working try extortion.
I use to work for Exxon - right out of college. I am a stockholder and I think this stinks.
