FULL TITLE: 'Oh you're gonna shoot me?' The sarcastic last words of straight-A student shot dead by college cop after being stopped for speeding

A witness says he heard the sarcastic final words of a Texas student moments before he was shot dead by a college police officer.

Robert Cameron Redus, 23, was killed when Corporal Chris Carter, 35, opened fire on him in the early hours of Friday morning a few blocks away from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio where Redus studied, set to graduate in May.

Neighbour Mohammad Haidaras told My San Antonio  that he heard a tense exchange between Redus and Carter sixty seconds before shots rang out.

He told the website: 'I heard (a man) say, 'Oh, you're gonna shoot me?' like sarcastic almost.'

The 22-year-old claims he heard gunshots less than a minute later and jumped into his closet.

Investigators say an altercation began when Carter tried to pull Redus over for speeding and driving erratically.

>> “ But - naturally - one has to go to the British press to get details like this.” <<

.
That’s because San Antonio is located within a nation that lacks a free press.

A gal I knew in college had a brother at the same school. On a road trip the brother got pulled over for speeding, and it came up on the BOLO (stolen?, armed robbery? or something).

The other guy driving obviously didn’t know they were suspected of something real bad, and when confronted with the actions of the cop to get out, hands on the hood, etc. he started mouthing off, and I imagine might have shrugged off a hand or something. So the cop pulls out his baton and starts beating on the kid. (Not just a couple of whacks to subdue him, a beating).

The brother was being guarded/ standing by another cop. The brother, reacting to the beat-down grabbed the pistol of the cop standing by him and pointed it at both cops to get the beating to stop.

Soon though other squad cars were arriving, and the kids were hauled off to jail. IIRC it was supposed to be several years in prison for the brother, but they were working on getting him out earlier.

All before the days of cameras. Both of the guys attended a very tough engineering school, and not thugs.

The cop went home to his family that evening, safe and sound.

Don’t know what all the bitching is about.

Nothing else matters.

Yes, someone pointed that out to me upthread. I wasn’t aware of it. There does seeming to be a pending case in the Georgia Supreme Court to decide if these types of “police” actually have any authority off campus. Doesn’t seem to me like they should, and I wouldn’t obey their commands if they tried to order me around off campus.

I did a little research, and it looks this issue is still being hashed out in the courts. There is a pending case before the Georgia Supreme Court to decide what, if any, authority privately employed “police” have outside their place of employment. Obviously, that’s just binding in Georgia, but it could serve as precedent for cases in other states.

If campus cops get a pass to ventilate sarcastic people at will, then I hire you all as reserve security against sarcastic liberals at my new online university.

Now go forth and send them all to hell. /s

“The dash cam on Carter’s marked pickup truck had fallen off and officers had made arrangements to have it remounted”

Figure the odds. I’m always afraid I’ll see bigfoot when I don’t have my camera with me.

I thought Alaska Wolf was permanently canned by the man himself.

It's a courtesy ping in memoriam...

He’s lonely since his dog ran away. Wolfy wanted to practice cavity searches, and sled dogs don’t swing like that.

People make a big deal out of cops shot in the line of duty.

Mainly because it is extraordinarily rare. It's a 'man bites dog' story, contrary what the powers that be would like you to believe. Most that die 'in the line of duty' are accidents involving vehicles.

Evidently enough to kill someone and get away with it.

The important parts of the story are, the cop felt threatened, and he got to go home that night, with pay.

If only an alaskan wolf were here to accuse you of wanting the cop to be dead.

The student ... had wrestled the officer's baton away from him and was attacking the officer with it.

If that is so then it should be forensically verifiable and that will change things significantly.

Indeed. Checking fingerprints on the baton would be a great start.Pity about the conveniently missing camera. I wonder exactly when the camera was damaged. There should be a paper trail for that as well.

Personally, I know that if I was on a jury for this kind of thing, absent physical corraborating evidence, any statements made by the cop would have to be taken with a grain of self-serving salt.

In the picture, the cop looks black to me - is that true?

Which picture are you looking at? See post #114

In the dead of night, alone, with no weapon, you will die. Does that make sense?
