I almost never post. I love Steyn and this one I really find so spot on how I feel. Despite how spitting serious these moron-made disasters are, thus proving what we all here seem to have known for so very long, Steyn can at least make me laugh about it, which helps.

My favorite last line, evah: "He broke the lifelong rule that had served him so well — "Don't just do something. Stand there" — and for the first time in his life did something, terribly. It will bear his name forever."

Fabulous article.

I searched FR all ways to Sunday and was surprised this was not already posted. It is quite highly likely that within minutes someone will show me how wrong I am, which is why I almost never post. :) In any case, I am sure you will enjoy Mark's latest great editorial as much as I did.

FRegards.

If you handed the President a 3x5 card and asked him to note his most brilliant personal accomplishments...he’d be lucky to fill two lines on the card. That would say a great deal about his abilities, his challenges in life, and the measurement of success.

He makes great speeches. But you can’t do much with that talent beyond running for office.

All of this leads me back to Harvard, and the general lack of any capable leader that they’ve ever produced.

Even if it was posted before it can stand a re-post. Steyn nails it as usual.

Obama didn't have to build a dam or a bridge or a spaceship, just a database and a website. This is his world, the guys he hangs with, the zeitgeist he surfs so dazzlingly, Apple and Google, apps and downloads. But his website's a sclerotic dump, and the database is a hacker's heaven, and all that's left is the remorseless snail mail of millions and millions of cancellation letters.

Posted this a couple of days ago. The most "tech savvy" President ever stepped on his own dongle.

Thanks for posting. I agree with the money line you highlighted ...

"He broke the lifelong rule that had served him so well — "Don't just do something. Stand there" — and for the first time in his life did something, terribly. It will bear his name forever."

Mark can really turn a phrase: “Politics, the late Christopher Hitchens used to say, is show business for ugly people. But it’s also ugly business for show people.”

Out of all of Obama’s speeches, the only memorable line is:

“You lie!”

Great piece, and thanks for posting.

Dan Pfeiffer, promised it would be "a consumer experience unmatched by anything in government, but also in the private sector." And he was right, kind of.

It's a gift that keeps on giving. The website was the easy part.

To say there is less private-sector experience in the Obama administration than in any other of the last century hardly begins to convey the particular pool of smarts on which this president has drawn. Nearly 60 percent of Eisenhower's cabinet appointments had private-sector experience; Nixon, Reagan, and both Bushes scored well over 50; FDR and Truman smack on 50/50; in Obama's cabinet, fewer than 10 percent have real-world business experience. None of Obamacare's begetters have ever created anything — certainly not a dime of real wealth.

That explains a lot, a very great deal indeed. The reason this administration has so resembled Soviet era government by apparatchik is that is precisely what it is. The only things it is adept at are gathering power and enjoying its perquisites.

To Obama, this is about social justice. The reason he never never cared about whether the exchanges worked, is because the goal was to dump the middle class onto Medicaid so that they will get the same healthcare as the poor. This is why all the crap about "substandard plans" was such a hoot. They wanted those plans to be so expensive nobody would buy them.

The government must save itself from Medicare and Social Security by killing the people laying claims as a matter of survival and the global financial system with it.

See tag line.

“A few weeks before Obamacare’s launch, one of the smart set, Dan Pfeiffer, promised it would be ‘a consumer experience unmatched by anything in government, but also in the private sector.’ And he was right, kind of.”

Brilliant.
