Those Who Can't, Govern [Mark Steyn]
National Review's Happy Warrior via Steyn Online ^ | December 4, 2013 | Mark Steyn

Posted on 12/05/2013 1:12:07 AM PST by ri4dc

For much of last year, a standard trope of President Obama's speechwriters was that there were certain things only government could do. "That's how we built this country — together," he declared. "We constructed railroads and highways, the Hoover Dam and the Golden Gate Bridge. We did those things together." As some of us pointed out, for the cost of Obama's 2009 stimulus bill alone, you could have built 1,567 Golden Gate Bridges ...

[snip]

For the last half-century, Obama has simply had to be. Just being Obama was enough to waft him onwards and upwards: He was the Harvard Law Review president who never published a word, the community organizer who never organized a thing, the state legislator who voted present. And then one day came the day when it wasn't enough simply to be. For the first time in his life, he had to do. And it turns out he can't.

I almost never post. I love Steyn and this one I really find so spot on how I feel. Despite how spitting serious these moron-made disasters are, thus proving what we all here seem to have known for so very long, Steyn can at least make me laugh about it, which helps.

My favorite last line, evah: "He broke the lifelong rule that had served him so well — "Don't just do something. Stand there" — and for the first time in his life did something, terribly. It will bear his name forever."

Fabulous article.

I searched FR all ways to Sunday and was surprised this was not already posted. It is quite highly likely that within minutes someone will show me how wrong I am, which is why I almost never post. :) In any case, I am sure you will enjoy Mark's latest great editorial as much as I did.

FRegards.

If you handed the President a 3x5 card and asked him to note his most brilliant personal accomplishments...he’d be lucky to fill two lines on the card. That would say a great deal about his abilities, his challenges in life, and the measurement of success.

He makes great speeches. But you can’t do much with that talent beyond running for office.

All of this leads me back to Harvard, and the general lack of any capable leader that they’ve ever produced.

Could not agree with you more. First time he was elected I could write it off to vapid electoral stupidity. The second time was either Treason or Fraud ... or both. We must flush twice in November to rid ourselves of these thieves or we are doomed. The way they have stacked the deck, chances are we are doomed even if we flush three times and hire 30% more conservatives on all levels.

Buy more ammo.

This is what I'm afraid of, the rats have voter fraud down to a concise science. Rove will suck the money away from the Tea Party and we'll have PIAPS to put up with.

Frankly I don't get the hypnosis that the GOPe has on registered members of the party and how they get one single dime out of anyone, anywhere, ever. I've always been registered Indy because, since Dole, I've just never understood how anyone could support elevating such dolts to the highest powers of this great country. God help us, we need a few great men to hang together, or surely we shall all hang separately. Who's the Magnificent Bastard of the Tea Party? Why is there no force that can drive out these vermin. /End venting.

Filling in the first line of the card would be one of his greatest accomplishments.

Even if it was posted before it can stand a re-post. Steyn nails it as usual.

Give the guy a break (/snix)---he's a "community organizer." He invested in Chicago criminal politics---and won the federal lottery bigtime.

But he still thinks like a streetwise Chicago hustler---"a community organizer".......and he talks like one.

Obama used Chicago streetsmarts to sell Obamacare-----he remembers fondly how easy it was to dupe stupid Chicagoans --- people on food stamps and SSI---- into thinking they could payoff subprime mtges. *

He is clueless that there are actually people out here who cant be hustled----who would have told him where to put those pipe-dream subprime mtges.

Who are telling him now what he can do w/ his Obamacare pipe-dream.

=========================================

* DERANGED PROGRESSIVE THINKING Obama's now suing banks for predator-lending--for "burdening" ths stupids w/ mtges they cant possibly payoff--the same banks he originally sued to setup the subprime mtges.

All of this leads me back to Harvard, and the general lack of any capable leader that they’ve ever produced.

A year or two ago, a local (Boston) radio host made the off-hand remark that "It seems like every problem we have has its roots in Harvard." Hard to argue against that!

Obama didn't have to build a dam or a bridge or a spaceship, just a database and a website. This is his world, the guys he hangs with, the zeitgeist he surfs so dazzlingly, Apple and Google, apps and downloads. But his website's a sclerotic dump, and the database is a hacker's heaven, and all that's left is the remorseless snail mail of millions and millions of cancellation letters.

Posted this a couple of days ago. The most "tech savvy" President ever stepped on his own dongle.

He makes great speeches.

Actually, all he does is:

1. Stand there
2. Look at the TelePrompter(s)
3. Read a Speech written by someone else.

If he is asked to make a comment while Walking, he's done for!

And, there is one White House Administrative Aide and one Secret Service Special Agent assigned to ensure the no one EVER lets Obama get a stick of chewing gum before he might have to say something!

He makes great speeches.

Making great speeches becomes quite easy when you are not encumbered by truth or reality.

If the media did its job those "great speeches" would be recognized as lies and propaganda.

Some have said Boobama makes great speeches.....but GQ
just named the country’s “Least Influential People”....... lists Boobama as no 17, describing him as an “eloquent hat rack.”

Thanks for posting. I agree with the money line you highlighted ...

"He broke the lifelong rule that had served him so well — "Don't just do something. Stand there" — and for the first time in his life did something, terribly. It will bear his name forever."

Mark can really turn a phrase: “Politics, the late Christopher Hitchens used to say, is show business for ugly people. But it’s also ugly business for show people.”

“If you handed the President a 3x5 card and asked him to note his most brilliant personal accomplishments...he’d be lucky to fill two lines on the card.”

1. Winning the presidency, not having done anything

2. Winning the Nobel peace prize, not having done anything

Those are actually brilliant accomplishments. At least Yassar Arafat had to kill a bunch of Jews and I understand he was reasonably good at it.
