The Other America: "Taxpayers Are The Fools... Working Is Stupid"

Tyler Durden
11/30/2013 19:25 -0500

While what little remains of America's middle class is happy and eager to put in its 9-to-5 each-and-every day, an increasing number of Americans - those record 91.5 million who are no longer part of the labor force - are perfectly happy to benefit from the ever more generous hand outs of the welfare state. Prepare yourself before listening to this... calling on her self-admitted Obamaphone, Texas welfare recipient Lucy, 32, explains why "taxpayers are the fools"...

"...To all you workers out there preaching morality about those of us who live on welfare... can you really blame us? I get to sit around all day, visit my friends, smoke weed.. and we are still gonna get paid, on time every month..."

She intends to stay on welfare her entire life, if possible, just like her parents (and expects her kids to do the same). As we vociferously concluded previously, the tragedy of America's welfare state is that work is punished.

"I think I'd like to live in 1950's America"

As a kid it was GREAT!

Off all day in the summer on your bike to go fishing or exploring or hang out with the other kids in the 'hood. Chop fossils out of the ledge, catch frogs in the swamp. Blowup model ships with firecrackers while they float in the pond.

Go to kindergarten wearing a gunbelt with two cap guns.

Etc.

There doesn’t seem to be a right answer.

There is, but it will never happen. Stop payroll withholding and make everyone write a check once a month to Uncle Sam. That would put both power back into the hands of the people to stage our own "strikes" and give the average citizen who doesn't pay much attention a good swift slap upside the head when they witness how much they are doling out each month to fedzilla for the useless in our society.

My wife spends hours and hours looking for work but at 59 is having a hard time finding any. She hates every second she is not working. Sorry the article made me angry I had to vent.

If I didn't have FR to come to vent and see other FReepers vent, the world would be a lonelier place.

Hope your wife is successful in finding work. She should not feel bad about it...she is one of the ones it was designed for because she is using it as a safety net instead of a safety hammock like so many others.

There is a million miles of difference between your wife and Lucy, the soulless, amoral pig who called that radio show. I remember reading Dante's Inferno long ago. I'm pretty sure there's a circle of Hell with Lucy's name on it.

Its a broken system, and there is no fix.

There is a very simple fix, you pay Fed income taxes, you get to vote in Fed elections, you don't pay, you don't get to vote.
Same applies to state elections and state income tax.
Producers vote, non-producers don't.
Things would change real quick like.
About the only thing to stop the crash and burn the country is headed to.
The money done more than ran out.

Indeed. In order to boost employment numbers figures the Soviets sent the unemployed to die in Siberia.

Welfare is essentially a high class concentration camp until the clamps come down.!

Just how much federal income tax does a person have to pay to have a vote? And you can’t get anything like that passed.... or the constitution changed to reflect that. Sure it might be a fix... but its not achievable. The system is BROKEN.... and there is no fix.

I still blame my parents for not letting me have a computer in my bedroom, nor letting me surf the 'net.

Now I have to overcompensate for the deprivation....

I can think of no way to argue with that.

I’m certainly not doing it anymore.

I’m going to enjoy the rest of my time here doing what I want.

The elite promote collectivism because welfare (individual and corporate) is beneficial for the rich and the poor while the middle class gets screwed.

Once the middle class runs out of money then they join the ranks of the poor bringing the country into third world status.

She’s lying up to a point. You can’t support a family of 5 on what she gets and still buy drugs unless someone is not eating.

She is probably getting much more than what was discussed. That 1250 is her walking around cash.

Thanks to this Depression our economy is in my wife has lost her job and for the first time in our 40 years of life together one of us is not working. She is devastated and mortified to be on unemployment. To read about these people that are perfectly happy to sponge off the rest of us makes me sick. My wife spends hours and hours looking for work but at 59 is having a hard time finding any. She hates every second she is not working. Sorry the article made me angry I had to vent.

The self employed realize that they are getting hammered by taxes. Takes a strong person to keep forging ahead.

I’ve been galt’ing in-place for 3+ yrs

I have a real problem working 60-80 hrs/wk knowing 36-48 of those hours are just going to those that would sooner rob me and mine then put in an honest days work (61% federal taxes, if you’re wondering... it’d be worse in NY or CA)

I no longer support the ministries who help the poor.

To minister to them is one thing, to give them sustenance is off the table. No more. No more charity, no more welfare, no more to the church for their supposed outreach programs.

I have reduced the tithe to my church for just this reason. I tithe what is necessary to support the minister and the facilities only.

I am done with it all.
