Thanksgiving is a big day for restaurants.
Along those same lines, if FR went down tomorrow, how many of us would be burying Jim Robinson in emails and phone calls, asking him when it is going to get fixed?
When you take the job, you agree to work certain holidays.
Many restaurants are open on holidays- I will be going to one for a huge dinner tomorrow myself.
As an employer I would ask for volunteers first (restaurant tips on holidays are much bigger)
but if an employee refuses to work I would fire him too.
I suspect there are other issues though
Back in the 1950's, most businesses closed on Sundays. When businesses began to open on Sundays, someone is said to have warned, "if you shop on Sunday, someday you will have to work on Sunday." That turned out to be prophetic.

Most of which would expect the stores to be open for them, but not expect anyone to have to work at them.
you had me for a second or two...because if what they posted here is false, then I would imagine they would/could face a crapload of lawsuits.

This why I don’t go out and spend on Thanksgiving or Christmas.
Neither do we. We will be home all weekend with our family instead of going shopping with all of the lemmings.
And if enough people do that, there won’t be money to be made serving people on that day, and the businesses will close.
One of several of us in IT in a 24/7 manufacturing facility has a week of on call for nights and weekends including holidays. My turn starts this weekend and if I gotta, I gotta. I hope not though.
TV engineering land was another where a body had to be around everyday. I worked most holidays since it was usually dead and get days off later when things I wanted and needed were open.
I am with this guy. I'm sick of not being able to find things up and running on that day.
I used to work on thanksgiving and Chistmas in the factory if I could.
We are having our family Thanksgiving meal on Saturday, due to scheduling issues. I don’t know what we will have for dinner tomorrow night, but pizza sounds kind of good.

There is no rule stating that Thanksgiving dinner must be held at a specific time, ditto for Christmas dinner and any other holiday tradition.
Over the years, my family has rescheduled festivities to accommodate family members who had to work. What I often do at my house is "Thanksgiving Rewind." For instance, we have a second dinner that Saturday to accommodate family members who couldn't be there Thursday. Yes, we have a second turkey and everything. It actually extends the holiday for us and makes it less stressful - not to mention lots and lots of turkey soup.
Early in my marriage, we used to celebrate two Christmases. We'd spend a day with her family and then another day with mine. Why not? Extend the holiday. Don't let it be ruined because you can't be all together at one specific time.

We’ve done the split and stretch Christmas to accommodate both my family and the in laws. Way less stressful.
