A man who allegedly broke into an Englewood home Wednesday and broke his leg trying to leave after the homeowner opened fire, has been charged with burglary, police said.
But the 53-year-old homeowner fired shots at the intruders, striking one man in the buttocks, police said. The homeowner was not injured.
Potts, of the 5300 block of South Wolcott Avenue, broke his leg trying to escape and was arrested on the scene, police said. He was being treated at Stroger Hospital.
A 19-year-old man matching the description of the second burglar later showed up at Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center with a gunshot wound to the buttocks and gave inconsistent statements about how he was shot, police said.
He was taken into custody and questioned, but he was later released.

Lawful gun ownership works in home defense even in Chicago! Unfortunately, it would not surprise me if the Chicago police arrest the homeowner and/or confiscate their gun. I am also certain that these stories of successful self defense with firearms will not influence the prevailing views of liberal politicians in Chicago regarding gun control.

Had this homeowner retreated to the false safety of a closet with a telephone that had 911 on speed dial, he'd be dead now. Shoot, shut up, get a truck/van and find a bridge late at night. Problem solved. It worked for Wayne Williams a bunch of times. You'd only need once.

Thanks for the ping. I'm so glad I left Illinois for the gentle warm breezes of Florida's central gulf coast.
I lived in a beautiful suburb in a conservative GOP county adjacent to Crook County.....but the political corruption in both Chicago (which dominates the state vote-wise) and the Illinois state government in Springfield is worse than the Lake Michigan-influenced weather, which is saying something.

LOL...only in Chicago do so many people get shot that a guy with a wound consistent with a crime might be the wrong guy...
