Senate Conservatives Fund blames McConnell after Dems go nuclear

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell had an eye on November 2014 on Thursday.

Senate Democrats pushed through the nuclear option that morning, curtailing the use of the filibuster and drastically curbing the power of the minority. McConnell pointed to the next Congress as a time when he hoped that he, as the new Senate majority leader, could make a Democratic minority shoulder the consequences of that action.

But on Friday, a conservative group blamed McConnell and what they said was his “weakness” as a minority leader for allowing Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to go nuclear.

Senate Conservatives Fund, an outside group who is backing McConnell’s primary opponent in Kentucky, political newcomer Matt Bevin, blasted McConnell Friday saying the rule change was his fault.

“Harry Reid did this because he knows Republican Leader Mitch McConnell will let him get away with it,” SCF Executive Director Matt Hoskins wrote in an email to the group’s supporters.

“The only way to deter a nuclear attack is to make it clear that the response will be equally devastating. Unfortunately, weakness is the only message Mitch McConnell has sent the Democrats on this issue,” Hoskins wrote.

McConnell’s campaign dismissed that argument as sheer idiocy.

“That argument is so profoundly stupid that it is hard to fully ascertain whether their deficiency is in math or logic,” said McConnell campaign communications director Allison Moore. “It does however help further illuminate why SCF is so bad at what they do.”

Twice already this year, in the face of Democratic threats to invoke the nuclear option after Republicans blocked nominees, the two parties have struck deals to avert the rule change, something Senate Conservatives Fund — which has repeatedly hit McConnell for his role in deals with Democrats, like the fiscal cliff deal on New Year’s Eve —

If you primary Liberal RINO Senate and House leaders....they know that there are repercussions for going liberal

One thing Liberal RINOs love most of all is getting re-elected. They know full well that if their actions cost them primaries...they will stop leaning left

McConnell needs to be primaried...and it needs to be bloody

You are exactly right, we are blaming Mitch McConnell for what he didn't do.

He failed to prepare the country for this fight. He failed to educate the people about the importance of advice and consent. He failed to demonstrate to the electorate how Obama is moving us toward tyranny.

He failed to make the Republican case on virtually any issue. It is only through the grace of God and the existence of computer devils that Obamacare has crashed and turned the country against it. Can you think of anything that Mitch McConnell has done to bring that about? Mitch McConnell failed to coordinate with Boehner, failed to have a coherent policy on every issue, failed to make the case to the people. Ask yourself, what is the Republican position on healthcare? They don't like it, they want it repealed, but not if there's any price to the repeal, they want it delayed, but to what purpose? Ask yourself if Mitch McConnell were the majority leader rather than minority leader would America be even 1 mm closer to repealing Obamacare? I think not.

The job of the minority leader, and the Speaker of the House when the Republicans are otherwise in the minority, is to stake out positions on all of the issues which the public can understand, support, and will vote for. Think of Newt Gingrich and The Contract with America. They are a doesn't issues which the Republicans could clearly stake out, but they have not. Mitch McConnell stands for no political tactic except rope-a-dope.

So Harry Reid and Barack Obama do not fear Mitch McConnell, they do not fear John Boehner, they do not fear the Republicans save for Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, and Rand Paul and a few stalwarts in the House. If McConnell could articulate an attractive platform to the people, the Democrats would fear him and they would have to compromise. But they do not have to compromise, they don't even have to be polite.

But we are not exercised about the degree of in politeness, Democrats, we are terrified of their tyranny and of the reckoning that must come.

“Nor does the Executive have any authority to flout the Laws (IE: enforcement); nor does Congress have the authority to do 90% of what it currently does (S.S., ‘gun control’, healthcare, etc.)....yet they both do.”

You are correct, but if the executive declared the congress dissolved, not a single senator or representative would pay any attention. They would keep gathering and keep paying themselves. And if they really got pissed off, they could remove the executive from power.

Mitch: I'm ready, lets negotiate. What do you want?

Harry: Everything.

Mitch: OK...and lunch is on me.

Get your memo to McConnell before you berate conservatives. He has done nothing but wave the white flag while the Dems drop nuclear bombs on conservatives and the rest of the country.

“It does seem stupid to blame McConnell for what Reid did.”

Like the article says, it is both math AND logic where the deficiencies lie.

So what is it you think McConnell should do.

Resign would be a good start, since he does nothing to stem the flow of communism into every aspect of our government.

.STOP THE FIRING SQUAD AND AIM AT THE DEMOCRATS

What do you think we are doing? Just because Mitch has an (R) beside his name does not mean he is not a democrat. We had a lot of democrats sneak into our camp when Reagan brought them in on his coattails.

Was looking for a real answer.

A practical idea about what steps McConnell should take in this particular situation.

I doubted I would get a real answer...and I was right.

Did Mitch McConnell learn to hit like a girl from this Allison Moore chick. This may be the weakest rebuttal ever. All she said was, ‘you guys are stupid’.
No Allison, it isn’t a stupid argument. If Harry Reid actually thought that your boy McConnell had a spine, a gonad, or the slightest bit of fight left in him, he wouldn’t have ‘gone nuclear’.
Let me tell you what you spineless RINOs are going to do.....NOTHING....that’s right....NOTHING. That’s what you always do, and B.O. and Harry Reid know it.

There is not real answer, else you would have posted it. He is a feckless, powerless leader, but he does get a Damn.

You got answers. You just didn’t like them because it’s not the tip toe to 2014 loser strategy that you seem to prefer. Do you like losing? Are you a Democrat?

McConnell has really @$#@ the bed now. He preemptively surrounded and gave away the store on the DL/CR. Now the Dems have gone nuclear. If he can’t do much now then it’s all on him and his pathetic tip toe to the next election strategy. It was a loser in 2012 and it will be a loser in 2014.

An hour after Reid did this crap McConnell allowed debate to continue through unanimous consent. Unanimous consent should be dead, dead, dead.
