A 19-year-old Liberty University student was shot and killed early Tuesday at an off-campus women’s dormitory in a confrontation with a campus police officer. University officials said they had received reports that a male student attacked the officer with a sledgehammer in the dorm’s lobby.
The incident occurred at about 4 a.m. at a hall known as Residential Annex II, on Albert Lankford Drive, a little more than three miles from the main campus. Lynchburg police said they responded to a call for help at 4:07 a.m. from the residence hall.
“This appears to be an isolated incident and there is not any ongoing concern for the safety of students or the community,” Lynchburg police said. “We are not currently seeking any suspects in relation to this incident.”

Darn. A friend’s granddaughter is a student at Liberty University. One would hope that a marauder with a sledgehammer is an “isolated incident” ...

At Liberty U. Guy aren’t even allowed to think about girls at that school.

That sounds like Ted Bundy’s modus operandi.
While I may not want to, if an officer tells me to put down the sledge-hammer, lie down on the ground, and put my hands behind my head, I’m first going to freeze and then that’s exactly what I’m going to do..., slowly and deliberately, after me stating what I intend to do next each step of the way, so they can know exactly what I intend to do.
And at each step, I’ll be asking, “Okay?”
I suspect that guy was under the influence of some substance.

Telling them what you’re going to do isn’t going to help if they are yelling at you. Showing compliance with hands empty and fully extended will get the desired results.
I live ten miles east of Lynchburg. You can rest assured it's an isolated incident. Liberty students are great kids. I've never heard of anything like this happening there.
I never heard of Liberty U.

They still have Girl's dorms in this day and age? I thought that went out in 1968.
When I first got to college that year, there were men's and women's dorms, and the girls had curfews.
At the beginning of the next year, in 1969, they had co-ed dorms.
Some colleges have male-female roommates now
Saw two air force MPs get into an argument over this. Small hallway about 30 feet long, cops were on both ends with their guns drawn on a gun in the middle. Guy in the middle had lost his badge. He was kneeling and had his hands laced behind his head.
The two MPs started arguing with each other as to what he should do. One would yell an instruction and the other would say “no, do .....”. All while they had their guns aimed at him in a use of deadly force authorized area.
I haven’t, but I’m sure I’d feel the same way you did.
Sounds good on first review. There are articles that pop up now and then with the person in question following what one officer says, only to have another shoot him dead for doing it.
All parties will be on the same page.
