McAuliffe Campaign Funded the Democratic Ground Game That Sealed Victory
Breitbart - Big Government ^ | November 6, 2013 | Michael Patrick Leahy

Posted on 11/06/2013 10:56:53 AM PST by don-o

Breitbart News has confirmed that much of the credit for Terry McAuliffe’s narrow 47.9 percent to 45.5 percent victory over Republican Ken Cuccinelli in Tuesday’s election is attributable to a $4 million donation the McAuliffe campaign gave to the Democratic Party of Virginia, which used those funds to run a highly effective ground game for the party’s full slate of candidates.

Ashley Bauman, press secretary for the Democratic Party of Virginia, told Breitbart News in an exclusive interview on Wednesday that "[w]hile we used that money [the $4 million donated to the Democratic Party of Virginia from the McAuliffe campaign] for many things, the vast majority of it was used for our grassroots mobilization effort to get out the vote”

"We ran one of the largest ground games in a gubernatorial campaign ever in an off year election," Bauman added. "We worked hand in glove by running a very coordinated campaign up and down the ticket, from Governor to House of Delegates candidates."

The robust Democratic ground game may be one reason that statewide voter turnout increased from 40% in 2009’s gubernatorial election to 42.4% in 2013. With 100% of the state's 2,558 precincts reporting, 2,220,424 votes were cast out of 5,240,452 registered voters.

Ms. Bauman told Breitbart News that “we are well trained in grassroots mobilizing . You see that in Virginia in the presidential elections of 2008 and 2011. We took that model to the next level in 2013.”

That’s what makes today’s crony capitalism so dangerous.

Both the Clinton Crime Family and the Chicago Mob have serious money to put into elections.

I live in Loudoun County. It went McAwful 49-45%. That being said, I never once had anyone from his campaign knock on my door or call my house. Nor do I know anyone in my neighborhood, from my church, or in my social circle who had anyone from his campaign visit their house or drop off campaign literature.

Cuccinelli, on the other hand, constantly had volunteers out and about since June. This inspired my 15 year old son and many of his friends to join the effort as well. Cooch had a very strong ground game!

Now I know I’m not on their “list”, but I’m sure many of my neighbors are. Maybe they ensured their base in Fairfax came out, but outside of that, there was no meaningful McAwful ground game. I call BS!!

The campaign with the better ground game generally wins close elections for the same reason most medical expenses in a given lifetime are incurred in the six months prior to death. It’s called the law of averages.

An effective ground game works folks who are already potentially leaning. The Bagman evidently wrote you off.

The BeatLamar! ground game is going after voters who have voted in the Rep primary at least four out of the past five.

You're right. The Cooch campaign/RPV was much better organized and out there. TMac’s team was no where in comparison. The problem was the non-stop negative ads with all the money. That was the difference - along with the lack of GoPe/RINO support and some other factors. It is truly amazing the race was as close as it was.

Perhaps some brilliant ad people could come up with some fun ads that show a DEM slinging mud with no platform issues to share. Instruct the voters to run and ignore the mud being thrown. These ads could be fun and educational as well. Just a thought...............

Thank you for reporting that! In recent elections, we keep hearing about this fantastic “ground game” the dims have going on.

I don’t believe it exists as far as what most Americans think of as being a legitimate grass roots effort. But they’ve learned well how to game the electoral system and they’re destroying us piece by piece.

As much as it pains me to say it, maybe it’s high time we learn to beat them at their own game...before our beloved country is gone.

“grassroots mobilization effort to get out the vote”

Paying the precinct captains for the votes. There’s going to be a lot of new cars and bling in the church parking lots on Sunday down on Norfolk.

$4 million in Virginia can go a long way... Now let’s speculate about where that $4MM came from ? Was it from Terry McAwful’s Green Tech boondogle? If so, then much of that money came from crony capitalist infusions from either Obama’s commerce department and/or the State of Mississippi’s “development” department. I wonder if there was any dirty overseas money that got mingled into that $4MM? I’m looking forward to the Senate Investigations Committee where I expect to see some investigation into shady funds that were funneled into McAwful’s “company”. I wonder what the over-under is on McAwful being indicted some time during his term as governor.

I honestly doen’t understand how any East Tennessee Conservative could ever vote for Alexander. Even the Liberal leaning KNS almost worships the ground he walks on and Corker as well for that matter.
