Obamacare is a disasternot because of the clunky, costly, inoperative website, but because President Obama and his HHS minions have grabbed control over our personal health care decisions and they wont let go.
First, the top-down control means that the President and his know-it-all bureaucrats mandated that every adult purchase health insurance, even if they dont want it. (The Supreme Courts ruling that the mandate is only a tax provided helpful cover for the Administration.)
Second, the Obama Administration asserted control over religious organizations and private companies, dictating the contents of their insurance plans. The move, requiring coverage for birth control, sterilization, Plan B, and (in many cases) abortion, was never about ensuring better care for Americans. It was about paybackpayback to the reproductive rights crowd for their support for Obamas re-election campaign. Planned Parenthood and its allies wanted free birth control for all, supported by subsidized access to abortion. And they got it. (In her recent testimony to Congress, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius dodged questions about Obamacares lack of transparency regarding abortion coverage, saying I dont know if pro-life subscribers can see which plans on the exchanges cover abortions. As it stands now, Obamacare effectively requires pro-life folks to pay for other peoples abortions.)
Third, its now clear that the Obamas hunger for control extends beyond the contents of individuals private policies. He hopes to strip Americans of those private policies altogether. And hes succeeding. This past week the news broke that way back in 2010while the President was stumping around the country promising everyone that, If you like your plan, you can keep your plan the Obama Administration knew that many insurance plans would be cancelled because of Obamacare. In fact, they predicted in 2010 that 93 million Americans will be unable to keep their health plans under Obamacare.
At the news broke this past week, the Administration dissembled (i.e. lied). They argued that Obamacare would result in only a small percentage of Americans (a mere 15 million people, holders of inadequate individual plans) losing their health insurance. But thats not the case. Millions and millions of Americans are losing their employer-based healthcare as a result of Obamacare.
The Administration knewthree years agothat the top-down control of Obamacare would cause massive disruption of the insurance marketnot only individual plans but employer-provided plans. The HHS regulations ensured that few existing plans would be grandfathered in and allowed to continue.
They didnt care then, and they dont care now.
They dont care about the pregnant mom who lost her private insurance and must now pay doublefor less coveragethrough the healthcare exchanges. They dont care about the 100,000 New Yorkers who lost their plans or the 800,000 New Jersey residents who lost theirs.
How to Save Your Family: Vote Your Freedom
So whats to be done? Two things: In the short term, keep the pressure on your congressional representatives and senators. Let them know that the Obama plan for top down control over our lives is unacceptableand its un-American. Insist that they do everything thats politically possiblewrecking ball.
The long-term solution, however, can only be a complete repeal of Obamacare. And thats only possible if we un-elect in 2014 every politician who voted for it.
The American people deserve better than excuses and half-baked damage control. This is our Republic, our money, our families, and our lives. Its time we served notice on Washington that they are not in charge of usthey work for us. And if they dont do the right thing, then we will.
Lets not forget to send John Roberts a thank you note, with comments.
From the excerpt: “And thats only possible if we un-elect in 2014 every politician who voted for it.”
Can’t do that, unfortunately.
First, the main congressional culprit in this mess is the Senate and all Democrat Senators who voted for the ACA are not up for reelection in 2014, and therefore cannot be “un-elected” . Only a third of the Senate is up for reelection every two years.
Secondly, the Executive can veto any repeal Bill and the Executive cannot be “un-elected” in 2014. Therefore, the Senate would have to be “veto-proof” and that’s not going to happen in one election cycle (see item one above).
“We the People” can only begin to do something in 2014 and will have to continue “doing something” for at least one additional election in 2016 and probably several after that.
The best chance was in 2012 and “We the People” blew it.
In order for nobamacare to work, healthy, young Americans MUST pay for insurance even though they don’t want to and even though they may never need it.
But for this latest income distribution scheme to work, the young must buy insurance to pay for those with preexisting conditions, the old, the infirmed, etc.
IMHO, a solution that kills two birds with one stone is for the young and healthy to just pay the penalty, AFAIK, $95 or 1% of your gross income. This will probably be substantially less than the premium under nobamacare. That’s one stone.
The other is that this “starves the beast.” In order for the income transfer to work properly, nobamacare desperately needs the income from the young and healthy. Without it, nobamcare will collapse under its own weight.
EVERY rat senator voted for a bill they hadn't read.
The long term solution is to once again render senators responsible to their state legislators.
