Joe Biden: Ken Cuccinelli's views ‘from another era’

ANNANDALE, Va. — Vice President Joe Biden on Monday delivered a closing pitch for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe, painting the Virginia race as a major test of the mainstream electorate’s answer to a resurgent tea party.

”This race has captured the attention of the entire nation,” Biden said. “Not just because it’s a … race in a bellwether state that has become the face of progress in this country. But because it’s the first major race between the forces and faces of the new Republican tea party — a tea party whose social recidivism is only outgunned by its hostility to science and technology and innovation and scholarship.”

Biden’s comments came at a get-out-the-vote canvassing kick-off here, a day before the Virginia gubernatorial election in which McAuliffe is facing off with GOP candidate Ken Cuccinelli. About 300 people packed into the backyard of a volunteer’s home in this suburb of Washington.

Cuccinelli, Biden continued, is a candidate “whose views on women, you know them well but I think it’s fair to say, are from another era. I mean literally from another era.”

He appeared at the event with McAuliffe, along with Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) and Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), all of whom blasted Cuccinelli over his socially conservative positions on women’s health care and sought to tie him to the tea party.

“Everything they talk about, without exaggeration, is about turning back what the rest of the country and the world thinks is progress,” Biden said. “It’s hard to fathom this state being led by a man who rejects all that this new thinking stands for. The whole nation is looking at this race, that’s not hyperbole.”

A Quinnipiac University poll out Monday found McAuliffe leading Cuccinelli by six points, 46-40 percent. Biden urged Democrats not to get complacent.

“There’s only one place the tea party can compete with us,” he said. “And that is, they do turn out their base, they do turn out those who share those views out of the ’30s and ’40s and ’50s. That’s what it is. Don’t take this for granted.”

Biden said the GOP ticket’s conservative positions on social issues would discourage businesses from setting up shop in Virginia, echoing a line Democrats have emphasized throughout the campaign.

“Think about whether or not, with the attitude of Cuccinelli and his ticket, if they were to win, what that will say to America,” he said. “What that will do to attracting the continuation of this great tradition in this state.”

He jabbed, “They’re going to need to give [businesses] stipends to come to this state.”

The vice president called McAuliffe, in contrast, “smart as hell, tough” and someone who knows “how to get things done.”

McAuliffe served up his standard critique of Cuccinelli, describing him as a socially conservative tea party figure aligned with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). He urged the canvassers to push hard in the final hours of the campaign.

“The question in this election is simple: will the mainstream, bipartisan majority in Virginia be drowned out by the tea party?” he asked the crowd. “If mainstream Virginians from both parties don’t turn out to vote, you’re letting the tea party decide Virginia’s future. That’s why I need your help more than ever. Get. Out. The votes.”

What planet does he live on?

Oh, and Mr.Soon to be ex vice president,
my thinking comes from the 70’s the 1770’s.
“New thinking” has been tried before and didn’t
work then.

"...a tea party whose social recidivism is only outgunned by its hostility to science and technology and innovation and scholarship."

Now there is a turn of phrase I am absolutely certain was dreamed up by the Center for American Progress, or at an equivalent Progressive think tank.

It is a nearly pure form of propaganda designed to appeal to each of the Democrats' main constituent groups.

Please allow me to translate from the original Propagandese:

"...a tea party (GOP=Tea Party=GOP; notwithstanding all evidence to the contrary) whose social recidivism (anti-gay marriage) is only outgunned (anti-gun control) by its hostility to science (anti-abortion and skeptical about global warming) and technology and innovation (opposed to government "investments" in wind and solar power) and scholarship (anti-unionized, "Common Core"-promoting public education)."

I actually agree with you that the women of this country are, by and large, stupid. And yes, I am one.

To actually think that “access to birth control” (i.e., free pills and abortions) is so important to women that it trumps jobs, the economy, the deficit, and personal freedoms is mind numbing.

But that’s where we are.

they vote with their feeling and not their heads. They use their hormones and their uterus as a guide for who would offer up the best policy. The guy who lies about rubbers and pills or the family man that cares about life.

Repeal the 19th amendment and you will see a return to a more limited, constitutional government with responsible thinkers being placed in positions to make more informed decisions and govern based on reality.

Opposite of the truth. The left would have nothing without their lies.

Yes, Joe. Absolutely correct, an era to which we are firmly committed to return.

WTF!! Do females HATE traditionally conservative men because they're jaded from divorce? What secrets do females have that we're not being told? Do they HATE traditional America and perceive it to be against them? WE NEED TO FIX THIS HARMFUL PERCEPTION and make females aware that the 'War on Women' is a ruse used as a tool by the DemonRats to get them emotional and lose their logical minds!

Their get their talking points from peers in social(ist) networking sites, liberal edited womens' glossy magazines, and liberal hosted morning tv chat shows. They get wet over the Clinton error and they can't explain why.

Sound advice from one of America's wisest citizens.
Photobucket

That is the RESOLUTE DESK, fashioned from the timbers of the British warship HMS Resolute. It was a gift from the British to President Hayes in 1880. The Moron-n-Thief HATES the Brits due to his delusional fabrication about them having imprisoned and tortured his father when Kenya was still a British colony. That's BS on two levels: It never happened and FRANK MARSHALL DAVIS (his biological baby daddy) was NEVER IN KENYA!

Biden says it like its a bad thing! Old views —like the ones that made America Great—maybe just what we need. The new Progressive view have wrecked thing good. Maybe its time to reject the failed policies from the present and returned to the successful ones of the past.

Of course it's the opposite of the truth. The Left would have nothing without a slavishly fawning news media to advance their agenda and an intentionally dumbed-down electorate eager to be herded into their sheep pens and fed for free.

The chief fallacy of Progressivism is that all human progress militates in the direction of collectivism and away from the individual. Anything or anyone that pushes back is instantly branded as "reactionary" and as an "enemy of Progress".

There is only one manner in which such efforts have ever ended, historically speaking, and we all know what it is.

Virginia is far too liberal today to use them as a metric any more than you would NY. Having said that... I think Ken will win.
