Another history lesson is the law of consequences. After Stalin gutted most of the Red Army's general staff, the Soviet military was ill prepared to take on the Germans after Hitler's invasion. Had Hitler not postponed his invasion for several months to bail Mussolini out of messes the Italian dictator made in the Balkans, the Nazi flag would have flown over Moscow, Leningrad, and Stalingrad before 1941 was out.

You’re right the French Foreign Legion wear those hats and I think it would be a mistake to call one of those guys girly. Also unlike the US they do not allow woman and have no plans to do so.
