The liberal Jewish hawks left the democrat party in the 70s because the anti-war movement was taking over the democrat party, to become conservative Jewish hawks in the GOP, known as Neoconservatives or NeoCons.
Irving Kristol was the leader of the NeoCons back then and his son, Bill Kristol, leads that group today.
They are one of the most powerful groups in the GOP today, because there are now many gentiles in the group. People like Dick Cheney, John McCain, Lindsey Graham, etc.

Iran can be convinced to end their nuclear weapons program without using nuclear weapon. A substantial conventional attack on Iranian infrastructure would turn the lights out, cut off the water, & shut down their economy. Destroying their petroleum assets would impoverish them. Targeted attacks on their leadership would terrorize the mullahs if it didn't kill them. The Republican Guard, naval/air assets could be bombed to irrelevance. The “democratic” opposition could seize power with US backing.
Then, send in the ground troops to verify & destroy all Iranian NBC facilities. Ground troops are the only sure way of verifying the NBC facilities & stocks are completely destroyed.
We did it twice to Iraq with great military success. Remember where we found Saddam? The mullahs surely do.
Using nukes is a Pandora's Box that need not be opened. Iran will not be "fixed" by quick & easy, push button methods.
Don't expect Obama to do anything about Iran. A nuclear war, if there is one, will be between Israel & Iran, embroiling the whole Middle East in a NBC war of extermination against Israel & each other.
