Internal Cruz memo argues defund Obamacare effort ‘produced tangible results’

Ted Cruz’s office has written a memo that takes aim at the “establishment politicians and members of the pundit class” that “continue to second-guess efforts to defund Obamacare” and blame the Texas senator for the government shutdown.

“The defund plan produced tangible results that create both immediate and long-term benefits for the country and the conservative cause,” the memo, which has been circulated in political circles and obtained by The Daily Caller, argues.

Here is the Cruz argument about why the defunding Obamacare effort was worth it:

First, it intensified the nation’s focus on Obamacare. Second, it energized Americans by showing there are people in Washington willing to take real action to stop Obamacare. Third, it exposed, for all to see, the Democrats’ refusal to compromise out of blind devotion to their extreme liberal agenda. Lastly, it proved the need for Republicans to unite and stand firm together in their resolve to defeat Obamacare.

Cruz’s office takes particular issue with those who blame Cruz – and not the Democrats — for the shutdown. On Monday, for example, the liberal MSNBC website asserted as fact that President Obama “is coming off a big win in the government shutdown–a 16-day fiasco where Republicans looked like they couldn’t keep the government working.”

The memo dismisses that thinking: “Despite claims made by the left, members of the media, and many other members of the DC establishment – it was Harry Reid & President Obama, not Senator Cruz & the House Republicans who forced a government shutdown.”

“President Obama is responsible for shutting down the government because he refused to negotiate with the House of Representatives to keep the government open,” the memo states. “President Obama issued 15 veto threats to bills the House of Representatives passed, with significant bipartisan support, to re-open the government and fund vital government services, such as the Department of Veterans Affairs and the national parks.”

IIRC, doesn’t the law offer all sorts of goodies for those who are ill right now? Like these ill people can get insurance right now at a fairly affordable rate.

So that means you need all of the young healthy people signing up right now or in a short period of time to off set the huge cost that the insurance companies now face with having to take on all these extra sick people.

So without the young people to offset the huge costs this year, the insurance companies will be put into a bind to force the additional on those who already have plans.

Anyway those are my thoughts. They could be wrong though. So you may want to look into it some more.

I certainly agree that the Affordable Health Care Act can’t work, it essentially destroys the concept of insurance while simultaneously requiring everyone to buy it. Obamacare will inevitably become a financial black-hole, sucking what little life is left out of our free-market economy. I however do not agree with the notion that Obama or the Democrat party will ever give up on their dream program just because it’s destroying our country.

This notion of “let it fail” assumes that we have leadership willing to do something about that failure, other than point fingers and print money.

Get back to us when you figure out a strategy that is actually an act of opposition to Obamacare.

Any political 'strategy' to oppose Obamacare will be far less effective than simply allowing the people to feel the sting of this Marxist, totalitarian dream.

Real, extended, and excruciating pain, is the only thing that will wake the 47% up from their left-liberal induced stupor.

Conservatives need to build our own national news network. Conservatives also need to become much more involved in the political process and they need to start practicing what they preach.

It also gave us an easy question for the next Repub debates. “Where were you when Ted Cruz was standing up there all by himself?”

Yep. Most of us will not forget who came to his aid, and who hid under their desks. Payback's a'comin'.

BECAUSE IT CANNOT WORK! Wake up. This is all becoming clear. Watch and see.

Why rescue the Obama, the Democrats, or those in the GOP-E who have at least supported this implicitly by delaying the inevitable?

Don't give it a soft landing, let it fail as it should, spectacularly!

Amen!

Principled opposition can only take two forms in this fight:

1. Very vocal and doing everything we can to defeat it like Cruz has done.
2. If that fails, then get out of it's way, and let it burn to the ground.

Meddling in this and trying to help people implement Obamacare or soften the pain temporarily is not a strategy, it's failure to act from a position of principle.

Personally, I think we have to aggressively do the former, while realizing that it won't slow down this train wreck even a little bit.

We need to keep telling everyone who'll listen, because when the inevitable collision with reality comes, we will completely own the high ground, and the left will be thoroughly discredited.

Actually, I think I should have combined the two as the one and only approach for conservatives to take.

Be loud and proud and constant in doing everything to fight and defeat this socialist monstrosity and stay out of the way by NOT HELPING, in any sense, the Democrats and THEIR Obamacare.

You don’t get it. Delay = ObamaCare death. There will be an election before 2014. No bi-partican panel will certify. You buy breathing room to expose the criminal waste and fraud and political payola that has gone on.

Nope, just the opposite.

Delay breathes life into ObamaCare and gives the Democrats, and the Pretend GOP-E, time to maneauver.

Let it die now, quit trying to rescue, albiet unknowningly, the Democrats and their socialism.

Part of my earlier point is that I don't believe we can truly stop Obamacare, short of taking over 80% of the three branches of government and the administrative bureaucracy. Therefore, all attempts by House and Senate Republicans to 'stop' this thing, will be akin to pi**ing up a rope, and will only serve to further divide our side and give the left more reason to pin blame on us in the long term ("See there? The damn Republicans prevented the ACA from achieving its goals!").

I'd prefer to see House and Senate Republicans follow Ted Cruz' lead, and simply inform the public of what a rotten barrel of toxic fish Obamacare really is. Keep pounding the truth in, and stand aside while the train goes roaring off the tracks. When the pain sets in amongst the American people, there won't be a power on earth strong enough to convince them that left-liberalism has ANY credibility or workability.

I want to see the whole philosophical foundation of leftist political ideology irreparably broken. And it will be, if we simply get out of the way and let the Democrats destroy themselves.

Laughable....Obamacare WILL work, it is delusional to believe it will not.

The Commies and their RINO enablers will make sure of it, BUT in the meantime they will try to tell you:

“DONT WORRY CONSERVATIVES, DONT ROCK THE BOAT, DONT SPEAK UP ANYMORE AND GIVE THE REPUBLICAN PARTY A BLACK EYE, YOU SEE.....OBAMACARE WILL FALL ON ITS OWN!”

Do NOT be fooled into believing their excuse to do nothing.

Do NOT be fooled into believing their excuse to do nothing.

The correct course of action for the Republicans, with regards to Obamacare, is to aggressively inform the public as to the damage it will do to the nation, while not impeding its implementation in any way.

They need to just stand back and let the Dems blow the entire floor out from under themselves. This train is coming off the tracks no matter what anyone does to save it, or stop it.

Let the people feel the pain it'll bring, then watch as they look to the Dems and ask them, "Why did you do this to us?"

The time for aggressively arguing against it was before it passed into law, the Republicans proved to us then that they are useless, and counterproductive to the cause of liberty and to those Conservatives who promote it.

It is MUCH to late for that strategy....how can they argue against a law already in place? They will just be told to fix it! Using taxes and God knows what else.

As I said then, IF OBAMACARE PASSES, IT WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE TO CAMPAIGN FOR CONSERVATISM, the public will not elect anyone threatening to take healthcare away from their families,(as they see it).

As in Europe, all political campaigns are waged on who can implement laws better, not who can return us to liberty.

Liberty will only be gained thru blood.

I don't think you're factoring in how the American people are going to feel when they see with their own eyes how Obamacare personally affects them.

Their deductibles are going to rise, their co-pays are going to rise, their premiums are going to rise, AND there's a new government fine being imposed for failure to deliver oneself up to this abominable treatment.

Raise taxes to "fix" it? Those who are feeling the sting will never agree to, or argue for that solution! If anything, they're going to be demanding that heads roll. Republicans had best keep their hands off this thing, lest they want to join the head rolling club.

You have so much confidence in the American public, why?

What have they done in the past half century to afford them this benefit of the doubt?

Where is the evidence that Americans will suddenly be sufficiently educated in economics, history, etc? When they feel pain or abuse they ONLY turn to gov.

Do not trust them Windflier.

Yes, the American public will feel lots of pain, they already are.

They will also be told repeatedly by the administration and most of the media that the only way out of that pain is a single-payer system. I have no confidence that the majority of the public won’t be persuaded by these arguments. Recent events indicate that the American public is basically as dumb as a sack of rocks.

This is the battle we should all be preparing for, otherwise anything we do to get out of the Obamacare frying pan might throw us all into the Single-Payer fire.
