Rush Limbaugh: GOP ‘so irrelevant’ By: Mackenzie Weinger October 16, 2013 02:25 PM EDT

Rush Limbaugh on Wednesday blasted the Republican Party as “irrelevant” and responsible for “creating one of the greatest political disasters” he’s ever seen.

“I was trying to think earlier today, if ever in my life I could remember any major political party being so irrelevant,” the conservative radio host said on his show, according to a transcript. “I have never seen it. I have never seen a major political party simply occupy placeholders, as the Republican Party is doing.”

Limbaugh slammed the Republican Party for consistently failing to offer any “serious opposition” to the Democratic Party or President Barack Obama. And now the party has made an “inexplicable political cave-in” with the agreement to reopen the government and lift the debt ceiling, he said.

“There hasn’t been any opposition, not any serious opposition,” Limbaugh said. “There may have been votes against this or that, votes against Obamacare. There may have been votes against the stimulus, but in terms of a package of policies, a package of principled beliefs, of opposition expressed daily by party leaders against what’s happening in this country, there hasn’t been.”

The only real pushback, Limbaugh said, has come from Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah). “This is not the time to abandon Ted Cruz or Mike Lee, folks,” he told his listeners.

“You know that what they attempted to do here was, I think, valiant,” he said. “It’s been an illustration of just how terribly wrong things are. There are plenty of opportunities for lessons to be learned here. Now, look, I’m not living in a false reality here.

Rush and many others are waking up to the fact that the GOP-E doesn't have any "packages." THAT's the problem!

He is right. Too many Republicans are in Congress to be invited to all the best cocktail parties in DC and rub elbows with the rich and powerful.

Nah. They should have just held firm and allowed the debt ceiling date to pass, too. It’s a relatively small roll of the dice. This country’s immense fiduciary debt ultimately will result in a big world of hurt for us (maybe in 2014, maybe in 2034, who knows?), so dramatic events now will be dwarfed by what ultimately is to come. Doing the “right thing” is the guiding principle we all should live by. Accumulating debt without a plan is decidedly the wrong thing to do.

when discussing what kind of political animal I am, I often say that conservative doesn’t describe me sufficiently and that I am actually an “old Whig.”

Kirk and also Hayek both used that term as satisfactorily describing their view of where they stood. They did it in reference to Edmund Burke when he referred to the New Whigs, Fox and the like, and their flirtation with the excess of the French Revolution which initially was expected to possibly create an extension of freedom, an extension of the gains of the classical liberalism of the “old Whigs.”

Of course, Burke knew and outlined in Reflection on the Revolution in France what lay ahead for the French model of excess and we have seen it ever since.

Limbaugh was/is part of the problem...While the government was busy subverting our system and country, he played cute feminism licks while legitimate citizens became outnumbered by the illegitimate.

The GOP is corrupt and diseased...Their entire platform is based on nothing but bull sh*t.

Compromise over conservatism...Party over patriotism...Party over principle..Over and over...

The Pentagon now celebrates deviates and homosexuals while your borders and country are literally being taken over by foreigners entering the country illegally...All this while most in D.C. aid and abet them while passing laws to protect them, forcing you to pay them...How about borrowing trillions from the Communist?

Our history and electoral process has been undermined and compromised...Subverted by so-called representatives...To those still capable of critical thought, this is a sick disgusting joke.

Not long ago the the insiders and party cheerleaders had another set of big party celebrities...Like Bush and the likes of Rove..Remember? We’re talking epic con-jobs here. Not enough? The dynasty insiders keep suggesting you run his brother for king...Then his nephew...

Over and over and over.

McConnell in effect took a $2 billion bribe in the form of the construction funding for his pet projects for his state in exchange for his assistance to undercut the Obamacare defunders.

there is no infighting in the rat party...none...used to be...back in the 60's and 70's....but not now...

if the pub party was cohesive it would be a different story...

but you have the Mclames and the Mitchs...the gay blade Lindsey...

I do listen to him, and would disagree that he’s been saying any such thing. Love him, owe my conversion to conservatism to him, but no, he has not been saying that.

Rush did not buy into any of the conspiracies against Clintoon...he belittled them...

and then, he also told people...URGED them to vote for bammey in the primaries....

I know he thought bammy would never win....but that doesn't excuse his huge mistake...

he's right of course now...there is no opposition party whatsoever....
