Boehner on TV Now re. Shutdown/Debt Ceiling Deal
Fox News Live | 10/10/13

Posted on 10/10/2013 8:32:07 AM PDT by pabianice

Offering Obama a deal to reopen government. "It's time for leadership; time to move half-way to what Obama wants in order to have conversation.

Ryan: Pleased to reopen talks by giving Obama some of what he wants. We cannot waste anymore time. We offer a temporary rise in the debt ceiling in return for a broad-ranging talk on the issues in a divided government.

Rep. McCarthy: We come with the idea of solving the problems. We want a budget. We want to avoid any more problems with the debt.

Boehner: nothing is on or off the table. I think Obama wants to deal with the nation's pressing problems. (angry shouts from reporters -- can't hear their questions).

Will extend the debt ceiling for six weeks in return for Obama and Reid dealing in good faith.

Both Freedom Works & the Heritage Foundation are on board with this so I think you’re wrong that Boehner is caving

He keeps moving halfway while Obama doesn’t move at all. Eventually, he will be where Obama is.

Looks like there is a battle to find Bob Dole's successor as the person to undermine conservative efforts to gain control of the nation's budget. Following the same playbook:

"With no new continuing resolution, the existing one ran out on December 19 and the government again shut down. But since several appropriations bills had been passed, the shutdown this time sent only 280,000 workers rather than the 800,000 of the earlier shutdown. Over the holidays the press ran articles on the effects of the shutdown on government services and programs. Presssure continued to mount for some resolution.

On January 2 Senate Majority Leader Dole declared that "Enough is enough," and convinced the Senate to pass a continuing resolution to allow the government to reopen. While Gingrich was still under pressure from his backbenchers, he felt that negative publicity from the shutdown was hurting the Republicans and that it was time to pass a continuing resolution. On January 3 and 4 Gingrich spent 22 hours in meetings with Republican House members to hear their feelings on opening the government.

After hearing the dissatisfaction of the conservatives but realizing that some of the moderates were worried about the public reaction to the shutdown in an election year, he decided that it was time to end the shutdown. [49] He told the House Republicans, "You don't like the job I'm doing as Speaker, run against me." [50] On January 6 Congress passed a continuing resolution to open the government until January 26 and end the 21 day shutdown. On the same day Clinton delivered a proposal to balance the budget in seven years, but the Clinton proposals differed from the Republicans' and included much lower cuts in Medicare, Medicaid, and welfare. The government was open, but the issues dividing the two sides did not disappear."

President Clinton, Newt Gingrich, and the 104th Congress

I am glad you saw it, too. Reid and Durbin have already rejected this offer.

The RATS are doubling down on their stupidity.

Obama is just babbling what Valarie tells him to say.

The left will never negotiate unless you agree to agree to all their demands.

“Too many people on this thread not understanding politics. Good offer on Boehners part. This keeps the Budget dilemma in play (which Tea Party wanted) and allows the noose to get tighter each day Obama refuses to negotiate.”

I agree with your thoughts. I think that is puts Obama and the Dems in a “spot” because they will have to agree to the short-term debt ceiling increase in order to seem reasonable. I’m guessing that this does not make them happy, nor is it a given that the Administration will capitulate on this. If they don’t, then they completely own the so-called crisis.

True, but when there is the media, you have to maneuver around them to get to the people.

The RATS are overplaying their hand, now. And their contempt of the American People prevents them from seeing that they are on the wrong side of the saw while vigorously sawing the limb.

The bottom line is the result of the arcane political maneuvering occurring. The result will be readily seen if this a “cave” or an “opening”. That said...I strongly feel this Clown Car administration should be imprisoned (all of them) for crimes against our Freedom.

A lot of folks here want to see the Charge of the Light Brigade. For my part I prefer Sun Tzu. This IMHO is a good move, the goal is to win the battle not to be heroic.

Obama and Reid laying down a hard line show they want to use the Debt Ceiling to talk down Wall St and spook the public. Not accepting the ‘clean Debt Ceiling for 6 week to avoid the ‘disaster’ show they are the extremist and helps in the Obamacare battle especially as the public begins to see the full extent of the Obamacare website roll out.

Public perception is a large part of this battle. This move positions the pubs in the best possible position and makes it harder for the MSM to advance the rats message.

Being brave is fine being stupid isn’t. Cruz forced the establishment RINO’s into this battle (and hopefully positions conservatives to take over from slugs like RINO Rove). This move keeps the attention on the issue Cruz raised Obama care and the budget.

The problem is hardly anyone will hear of these chess moves if the GOP does not carpet bomb voters with the ads. Folks are busy watching Honey Boo or whatever. That there is no media blitz tells me the GOP are not fighting to win this.

If the Dems do not agree to a short term CR the GOP will cave and there will be a deal next week. The GOP has already negotiated against themselves down to almost everything the Dems want. This is almost over.

It is better for economic certainty for Congress to take the threat of default off the table for as long as possible,

Yeah, right but the Impeachable One left off one word:

Certain economic DISASTER.

If the republicans cave the house is no longer relevant. There will be a rubber stamping party. In fact, the democrats should change their name to Rubber Stamp Party.
