Cop had a G22 which would make it .40 caliber. I don’t know what round they use. The .40 has proven to be a very effective round but real shootings are not Hollywood shootings.

The .45 is not a magic bullet either and most .45 rounds are no better than .40 caliber rounds. The .45 may have a bigger bullet but the .40 round is usually moving faster and delivering more energy.

What surprises me is the cop only fired once when the perp was still clearly a threat. If you have to shoot someone never shoot them just once. You keep firing until they are no longer a threat. If that results in ultimately fatal wounds to the threat, oh well.

>>> You sir, obviously have no self-defense, firearms, or medical training whatsoever. I am not attempting to be rude or condescending with such a statement, I am merely attempting to make an obvious factual statement.

I have no combat EXPERIENCE. There is a big difference.
Fact is I DO have training.
I served as an M1 Tank commander, platoon leader and XO.
Served in the army reserve as an NCO before going active duty.
So, you should be more careful about your “obvious factual statements”, and reconsider whether or not you are being rude or condescending.

6-7 miles over the limit”??

I got a ticket in Wisconsin driving my Dad’s car—for being 1 ONE mile over the limit. The trooper wasn’t kidding.

Cops formerly would stop people who were doing dangerous things. Sure, they still wrote speeding tickets, but not as many as now. But the number of cops on the road is probably triple what it was a few years ago and they’re stopping people around here at 6-7 miles over the limit. This is a huge burden on people who probably can’t afford the $150-350 tickets. I’m not justifying the shooting but I believe cops are now seen as oppressors. Any good feelings people had for police have evaporated in the light of excessive enforcement, no-knock raids and senseless dog shootings.

I'm surprised your post didn't get you flamed into last tuesday.  For quite some time, I've been amazed at every day that goes by without a roadside tax collector getting killed. Not justifying it or anything, just really surprised that it doesn't happen much more often.

Lets see the toxicology report. Bet he was either high or on adrenalin.

Depending where you were shot, unless it was in the heart, spinal cord or brain you would be amazed how much damage a person can take before they bleed out.

Thank you, and excellent post. There is no other logical interpretation of what unfolded. The other illogical interpretation that the perp killed himself a minute or so later using a shot to the chest with the kids in the car makes no sense. The autopsy/ballistics report will cinch the deal, of course.

Note how he accidently dropped the magazine from his pistol at 34 seconds into the video, but retrieved it quickly and performed an immediate action drill to get the pistol back in action.

When I was a police officer, I was in a gun fight with an offender wherin my partner hit him in the torso 4 times with 12 GA 00 buck (Remington 870, cylinder bore) at a range of 15 yards. Most of the pellets struck him. I hit him 7 times in the torso with 5 rounds of 9 mm.

The perp continued to fire at us after this untill he ran out of ammo. He survived, albeit with massive life altering injuries, was adjudged not guilty by reason of insanity despite a lengthy violent felony record and commited to a mental institution.

I dont know of ANY .45 ACP round that has more inherent stopping power than 12 GA 00 buck at close range, to say nothing of MULTIPLE 9MM hits, but my Vietnam infantry combat experience taught me that determined adrenalized people are capable of sustaining MASSIVE trauma and maintaining an ability to fight. Whatever you are shooting, just keep putting the rounds on target untill the threat ends. Shot placement is critical, no matter the caliber.

Er make that SEVEN times in the torso with 7 rounds of 9MM Hydra Shock. (after Winchester changed the name from Black Talon to be PC. The ammo was State issue)

Minimum speed in the fast lane on a Florida Interstate is 80 (not legally, but reality). Cops will not stop you unless you are going over 85 and then infrequently. I average around 82 mph to and from work for years. I get pushed out of the fast lane several times on the drive because I am going to slow.

The middle lane averages 75mph. Someone going the speed limit in either the middle or fast lane is an accident waiting to happen. As far as construction zones go, the ones that slow you down because of barriers, slow you down. Most are unnecessarily too long and not needed (workers way off on the shoulder).

I got a warning recently for going 42mph on an unsigned road. I told the cop I did not see a speed limit sign. He said if you don’t see one the speed limit is 30mph. Here’s the kicker, the area wasn’t residential, it was completely rural. No houses, children, pediatrician crossings, etc... nothing but trees for as far as the eye could see. 60mph would have been safe. The cop was hiding in the woods on a completely deserted street hoping to catch someone in a speed trap that serves no one but the county coffers. Most speed traps are not for safety, they are revenue streams.

I would bet that 80% or more of the drivers were going 76mph or more. However, that is not saying the guy did not deserve what he got. The man was a complete idiot and the Darwin rule solve his problem.

The Oregon State Troopers carry .40 caliber.

Baby Face Nelson was hit seven times in the chest with .45 caliber from a Tommy Gun and lived long enough to kill his assailant.

There are no guarantees.

Thanks for the info. I don’t have any experience in FL.

This happened in Oregon. I don’t have experience their either.

Where I live they drop the speed limit dramatically around construction zones and double the speeding fines.

So I can’t say if the cop had a reason to pull this clown over or not.

If the cop was stopping the driver for no reason I’d say he hit the reverse lottery. Certainly this guy behaved strangely after he was stopped. We don’t know about before.

I’m inclined to give the benefit of the doubt to the cop based on what’s in the article.

“The Oregon State Troopers carry .40 caliber.

Should also point out that Tommy gun was shooting FMJ ammo. FMJ in .45 does indeed suck but it doesn’t suck as bad as 9 mm or .40 caliber FMJ ammo sucks. Remember, “A 9 mm MAY expand but a .45 NEVER shrinks!”

I respect that, but I want to add two things.

No one ever shot with 9mm said, “Hey that tickles, please shoot me with something bigger.”

and historically, the 9mm pistol cartridge is responsible for more human deaths than any other pistol cartridge.
