This isnt the Los Angeles Unified School District, either, but a school in relatively conservative Orange County that seems to have a strange and inconsistent notion of stamping out images of firearms. Sophomore Haley Bullwinkle had already worn the NRA t-shirt she received as a gift from her father to her high school several times without anyone questioning her about it. Last week, though, she got sent to the principals office and was told she had to remove it because the T-shirt from the nations largest gun-safety instruction organization promoted gun violence.
What about the schools drill team, Haleys father wondered, which twirls fake rifles? And for that matter, the schools mascot a Native American warrior?

Principal Kimberly Fricker responded in an email, which said, in part, The shirt had a gun on it, which is not allowed by school police. Its protocol to have students change when theyre in violation of the dress code.
The girls father, who has retained an attorney, now wants to know how the school defines violence. He said the drill team is allowed to twirl fake rifles and the mascot is a Comanche.
I think that if you consider the hunter, the image of the hunter to be offensive, certainly there are groups that would consider the Comanche Indian chief to be offensive, he said.
Well, mostly busybody groups that largely dont include Native Americans among their supporters, but thats beside the point at the moment. While schools certainly have a right to set dress codes, the idea that an NRA shirt would lead to violence is patently absurd and completely irrational. If the school doesnt want T-shirts advocating any organization other than the school, that might be a reasonable standard, but it doesnt get to single out legitimate groups just on the basis of political unpopularity, especially with the absurd argument that the NRA promotes gun violence.
This clearly looks like an attempt to impose political correctness on students rather than consistent and reasonable discipline, and yet another example of zero tolerance replacing adult judgment and responsible stewardship in public schools.
But a shirt with Che Guevera (sp?), who killed lots of innocent people with a rifle (and a pistol, and knives, and probably poison), would likely have been just fine.
This concept should have been hammered at people a long, long time ago, but it's still not too late.
The kid is not "inciting violence", he is asserting his Civil Rights.
It’s thought control - If they can’t ban guns, they’ll ban unapproved thoughts about guns.
someone should tell these idiots to look at their money. most has a picture of an eagle, wings spread, holding and olive branch... and arrows. the arrows signify our willingness to defend our freedoms with violence.... though we prefer peace. which is why the eagle faces the olive branch (though it will face the arrows during war years)
FACEPALM.. Words escape me.. Geeze.. These folks are teaching HATE, not removing it..
hell, Mao was on the WH Christmas tree and he killed 60m+
No offense, but how many of these kinds of things are initiated by women administrators???
Or an islamic t-shirt? (yea, islam is in small letters.)
The Comanche Indians were known as the most brutal, ruthless of any of the Indians. They have been known to ride 1000 miles to attack. If any of their targets survived the attack, they would be brutally tortured to death. They took no captives.
Right out from the leaked memo from Brady gun control think tank. Yes they want to control your thoughts.
Hadn’t heard about that. Got a link, please?
The NRA does not “promote violence” and should sue the school for slander.
Good point. Totally forgot about that one.
Sorry no link. I did try to Google prior to posting. I held a copy back in 92-5ish? Big back then. Very Orwellian. It plays exactly to the zero tolerance (finger pointing) of gun play.
Most disturbing.... “school police”... the article says “school police”.
All too plausible, you betcha.
Ah ha. Google brings up HCI memo is hoax. Like Obamacare’s death panels...
