Obligatory disclaimer: Though I'm generally a fan, I view Chris Christie's record in New Jersey as a mixed bag, and I realize that many grassroots conservatives loathe the guy. But a party that's gotten its butt kicked in the last two presidential cycles by appealing to a small and shrinking slice of the electorate ignores the numbers below at its peril. In the latest Quinnipiac poll of the Garden State's gubernatorial race, Christie has (re)-established a mammoth lead over hapless Democrat Barbara Buono among likely voters:

McCain and Romney did appeal to a shrinking slice of people that want out of touch rino elites. Christie would likely do no better because he would alienate conservatives and libertarians.

Fifty years ago, who could have predicted that a day could come where the leader of Russia would be considered a better conservative than the Republican nominee?
And who would have predicted that the leader of Russia would be more trusted by many than the sorry assed, evil President of the United States.
The RNC might want to consider whether CC helped or hurt Romney in the 2012 election. If the RNC forgets what CC did, then the R party will experience even worse defeat in 2012. CC is not a national candidate but can probably win in NJ and possibly NYS. Maybe even Florida. Probably few other places. The D party can run anyone they like in 2016. Unless the R party comes up with a strategy, and in the past year they have had no strategy other than reduce the base, the D party has clear sailing for the forseeable future. Appalling, considering how Zimbabwean/Argentinian the D party has become.
New Jersey can keep him.
Isn’t it odd that a very few short years ago, conservatism was growing and taking the country by storm. Even most Dems think that conservative concepts are the most sensible ways to live—even if they think that voting against common sense and prosperity will enable them to avoid the laws of physics. If conservatism had a public presence in pop culture and in the information services (media), socialism would wither and collapse with rapidity. People cannot eat socialism, they need jobs and need to keep their earnings to buy food. And, no sane adult wants to give most of their earnings to other people who can take care of themselves.

What “slice” would that be?

McLame, Romney, Christie- Do ya’ see a pattern here??? I sure as hell didn’t vote in the primary for these guys. I will always vote the down ticket, but I will not vote for a Rino ever again. Nope-not doing it.

Agreed. I have been predicting Devil Patrick on the 2012 ticket for about four years.
1. I think Christie is running for veep in 2016. I'm fine with that.
2. Clinton looks weirder than ever since she had her stroke and needs those prism glasses.
All the Republicans need to do is to find an electable candidate for 2016....

If we ever eregain the momentum, we simply cannot afford to lose it again -- like we did in 1988.
If we elect a conservative president in 2016, a VP Chris Christie would be the second coming of Bush 41.
I would vote for Lonergan on October 16th and vote for the Democrat in November because there’s no difference between the two (The Dem and Christie).
Its a tough call but a second reason to vote against Christie in such a direct way is because to the extent he wins is the extent he becomes a national threat in 2016 where Christie will be sold as “electable” on the basis of the 2013 results.
