I may be wrong, but my understanding is when the govt shuts down military personnel will still be paid, social security checks will still go out, medicare and medicaid will still be paid so where's the pressure on the Pubs? It's the Rat base that works for the civilian wing of the govt. If I'm right as the pressure mounts on the Rats the Pubs my be able to leverage a lot of things into the final agreement.

I know the Pubs consistently disappoint us, but the Tea Party base and Sen. Cruz have changed this "crisis". The weak in the knees Pubs know they will see primary challengers if they waffle.

Delay is better than nothing. We can delay it again if need be, take the Senate and kill it.

I think this is a ploy that is being orchestrated by the Democrats. Many of them know that they are toast once this thing kicks in. So if they can delay at least the worst parts of it until after the next election, they can hold on to their jobs for another 2 or 6 years.

You watch. A compromise will be reached where the most unpopular parts get delayed while the parts that secure Democrat votes for life (i.e. the subsidies) still go through. And then in 2014, the Democrats retain control of a Senate they would have lost had all the effects gone through.
