Toomey prepared to vote against government funding bill
The Harrisburg Patriot-News, via PennLive ^ | September 25, 2013 | Robert J. Vickers

U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey pledged Wednesday to vote against a Senate procedure that would lead to continued funding of the federal government if Obamacare remains fully funded or other measures delaying its implementation are not allowed to be offered up.

Toomey, R-Lehigh Valley, said Senate leaders had yet to decide what rules they'll apply to the vote, but added that if they try to block any attempt at defunding, altering, or delaying implementation of Obamacare, they'd be responsible for the consequential government shutdown.

Toomey also shied away from criticizing Sen. Ted Cruz's marathon 21-hour speech on the Senate floor that delayed the vote. But he admitted that he didn't think it was the best approach to achieve the mutually shared objective of repealing the Affordable Care Act.

Arlen Toomey is a wishy-washy RINO. It is very difficult to tell what he will do by this article since he leaves room to change his mind. He has done this with just about every issue, less the Toomey, Manchin & Schumer gun control bill.

It is very difficult to tell what he will

That was Toomey's purpose in stating this drivel.

Don’t swallow this crap. Where does he stand on cloture? How he votes after cloture is invoked doesn’t matter one whit. The cloture vote to end debate is the vote by which ObamaCare lives or dies.

It is impossible to tell from the article whether Toomey will vote for Cloture (helping Harry Reid fund 0bamaMcConnellCare), or oppose Cloture, blocking 0bamaMcConnellCare.

Can anyone disentangle the horrible reporting to tell WTF?

Toomey will do what Cruz and Lee have said he and the RINOs will do. They will vote for cloture and then vote against the amendment stripping out the defund Obamacare language in the House bill. So Toomey can say he was voting against the bill but allowing it to pass by voting for cloture.

Reid has many more than 60 votes.

As usual, Toomey’s’ using double-talk to attempt to slide through unscathed. He has no principles whatsoever...here, he wants to be seen as somewhat supportive of Cruz when he’s really not.

Yes. Toomey is going to vote against cloture if Reid doesn’t allow for a full amendment process. Exactly the position of Ted Cruz.

Pat is a finger in the wind type but he chose the right position on this.

It’s intended to be obscure. Toomey’s hiding behind the smokescreen of “for cloture-against ObamaCare”. He plans to sell us out and then claim he was against ObamaCare. If he wasn’t, he would make his position plain.

“finger in the wind”

It’s obvious. One of those symbolic votes Sen. Cruz spoke of.
