"What Happens if the Government Shuts Down?"

SHTF, TEOTWAWKI, the end! You'll need a water purifier, fish pills, barbeque sauce and invitations for the neighbors.

;-D

SUMMARY

1) Workers in all three government branches are at risk of being furloughed.

2) Furloughed workers could receive pay retroactively. in every past instance where the government did shutdown, furloughed workers were given retroactive pay

3) Federal contractors will stop being paid

4) The court system would continue to operate, with judges, key staff member—including probation officers—not facing a furlough.

5) Social Security and Medicare payments will still go out, but experts say a shutdown could bring delays. During the last shutdown, CSR reports, the Social Security Administration kept fewer than 50,000 workers to help provide existing benefits.

6) Non-government workers might not even feel the effect of a closed government. [LOL]

7) “National parks will close and the places people like to visit in Washington, D.C., will be unavailable.

8) Veterans could face holdups with receiving services regarding health and welfare and finance.

9) New passport applications could be delayed

10) travelers could face longer lines at customs when re-entering the country.

11) there are lots of non-profits and for-profits that are dependent on federal grants.

12) The country’s 368 national parks will shutter

13) The National Institution of Health will likely stop enrolling new patients

Almost nothing noticeable. A few of the things you want government to do will take longer, pretty much everything you wish the government would stop doing will continue unimpeded.

I was a gov contractor in N Va in 95. I recall our whole office was essential. Early in 96, I took early retirement ‘cause I felt I was no longer making a difference.

Hopefully the effects of a government shutdown won't reach the unspeakable devastation that occurred when The Sequester hit, uh, some time ago. Remember that horror!

What makes the liberals hysterical is the knowledge that Americans will see that the economy will be good and things will run much smoother if the government shuts down....*LOL*

Haha, my thoughts exactly, along with:

1. Now is the PERFECT time to panic.

2. Officer, they’re looting the Food King!

The herd can only get thinner, quicker....

If it’s anything like sequestration, the only pain anyone will feel is if Obama can pick and choose what not to fund.

Seriously, there is such an unimaginable amount of pure flab and Crisco in the federal budget that many agencies can run off their existing fat for a year or more.

They won’t like it one dang bit, so expect a lot of bureaucrats to be in full whiny tantrum mode. Tough.

All I know for certain is that if I am still laughing after 4 hours, I am supposed to call a doctor. ;>)

I can last at least 6 months without ever leaving my house — SHUT IT DOWN...It will be fun.

I just bought a new crossbow... so it won’t even cost me a dime to target practice. ;>)
