Do you have any 3rd graders in your life? If they’re anything like the little 8 year old girls I know, they are probably playing with My Little Ponies and Polly Pockets, going to school, listening to One Direction, and painting their fingernails (out on the back porch so as not to get nail polish all over the house).
Because that is the life of 8 year old girls in America.

It just so happens I have been reading Gibbons “The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire” and several Fausta’s have been mentioned at the point where I am. I’ll assume you mean the Fausta betrothed to Constantine when she was 3 or 4 years old. She was not delivered in marriage however until she was in her middle to late teens. She had a daughter Fausta. If I recall, Commodus had a sister Fausta (not the one in “Gladiator”).
Those poor little girls look so calm and trusting. They have no idea what they are in for.
The current biography I’m reading “Constantine the Emperor” by David Potter stated that Fausta was married to Constantine I at 8 years old. The point is that in regards to historical figures from the 4th and 6th Centuries we should be careful in the stones we throw in that marriage did not mean exactly the same thing us 21st Century folk see it as. In regards to these figures from the past we should remember the glass houses we may live in before we toss. Marriage to Constantine and Muhammad was a matter of making alliances in a dog eat dog world. In Constantine’s case any physical contact would not have occurred until the girl was old enough according to Roman norms, considering 40 was like being 80 today. Interesting in regards to Muhammad, some current historians are beginning to cast doubt that he even existed. As to those who engage in this behavior today, they are reprehensible in accordance to the moral standards of their times, and should be condemned to the highest. However in 300 years, assuming with medical science people live well over 100 years, I would not want some future person consider myself some sort of monster because I married a 25 year old woman.
I read the SNOPES rebuttal and I believe that the ‘reporter’who claims to know that this is not a wedding but does not state what it is. nothing he says rebuts the wedding claim other that he does not believe that what it is. He even calls the men ‘Grooms’ and the little girls ‘brides’. But if that is not what they are then what is the expanation of what is actually going on.

It isn’t urban legend that in Muslim countries prepubescent girls are wedded to old men, and it isn’t urban legend that in Muslim countries old men can bugger the butts of young males with impunity. It isn’t urban legend that Muslim men can rape non Muslim women, or that they can rape Muslim women, and the women get punished for it. It isn’t urban legend that Saudi police forced little girls from a girls home back into a burning building because the girls weren’t properly dressed. Islam is evil.

While the date of birth of Fausta’s first child is not precisely known, we do know it had to be after her 18th birthday. Roman marriages as young as 14 to 16 were not unheard of but to compare that with Muslim pedophiles bedding 8 and 9 year olds is ridiculous. They deserve whatever stones are thrown their way.

The comparison was only between events that occurred in the 4th and 6th Centuries to today’s norms. What happens today should be judged by the norms of today’s civilized world, not what they were 1,500 years in the past or even what they will be in the future.
