One of Britain's biggest colleges on Friday dropped a ban on Muslim face veils after thousands of people signed a petition against the rule.
Birmingham Metropolitan College said on Facebook it would change its policy to allow "individuals to wear specific items of personal clothing to reflect their cultural values".
The college had earlier said it would require "the removal of hoodies, hats, caps and veils so that faces are visible", a policy that won support from Prime Minister David Cameron.
It would in effect have banned the niqab, a face veil worn by some Muslim women which covers everything except the eyes.

How about a shaved head with scalplocks, beargrease and loincloth, war paint, scalping knife and somebody’s scalp dangling from an arm? How about a shrunken head hanging from a spear?
Suspose THAT is my “cultural value”?
They’re just afraid of the kind, peace-loving warm friendly non-violent tolerant people who set bombs in railway stations and cut soldiers’ heads off on a city street with no one giving a damn.
Here is how Britain recently handled an instance where a Christian women wanted to dress for modesty:
• Amanda Burch, 41, wore a vest to cover her 32-week pregnancy bump
• Lifeguards told her to take the top off for 'health and safety reasons'
• Two other women were allowed to cover up on religious grounds
You’re new here. If you want to defend the oppressive culture that genitally mutilates women so they cannot experience sexual pleasure and insists on pain of beatings that women wear the veil, calling it a fashion statement, you’d be happier elsewhere.
I would love to see a student show up in full KKK grand wizard regalia, walk the campus, attend class.
Of course it would only be a short time before the PC police showed up to strip the offender of his garments, only to discover the student was actually black and sporting a T-shirt saying YOU GOT PUNKED!
