They’d get creamed in air-to-air but even a blockheaded Syrian tribal (much less a Russian) can be taught how to point an anti-ship missile in the right direction and let ‘er rip.

Not good. Not good at all. This says volumes about us, more about England, and has dire suggestions for the future.

SU-24’s are a lot like F-111’s like you said, I think they might even have an on-board toilet because of those long distance flights.

Su-24s likely wouldn’t engage the Typhoons

Then they would get to go back to Syria, in hostilites, they wouldn't escape.

The Su-24 can carry anti-ship missiles, though.

Then the Navy CAP will kill them and give 0 the provocation he desires.

Then Assad dies, Syria would be wise to take the Tomahawks that are likely coming and call it a day. No military response, some good photo ops at the baby milk factory, 0 is done.

The Typhoons – which can scream from runway standstill to seven miles high in 90 seconds

Not bloody likely mate. They are fast but not that fast. However, point taken. The Syrians beat feet rather that getting shot up then down.

The specs are saying it has a rate of climb of 62,000 feet per minute. Not sure if the human can make that climb that fast, but they say the plane can. Takeoff to vertical, I'd think they could make 36,000 feet in 90 seconds.

And the anti-aircraft missiles in Syria and the Russian warships?

I don't think Putin is a fool, AA missiles against cruise missiles (especially the latest and most expensive ones)is problematic and an unlikely successful tactic. Assad may need them for the AC coming later if dopey can make a provocation case. If I'm a Russian, defense measures would come from Syria, not my ships.

Probe...response...probe again...response...probe once more, shoot them down.

This is an of itself should tell us that the Syrians/Russians/Iranians/Hizbollah/Norks all need a lesson taught to them.

They know the British Parliament voted to sit this one out so what is the typical Arab response, probe and give you the finger for chickening out. They love to humiliate those that back down.

Yes, you go right ahead and launch war on 5 or 6 different countries at the same time. If you think we should be on the same side as Al Qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood, you are more NUTZ than Netz.

I am not advocating an all-out war on 5 countries but we have here a very real threat from that Axis of Evil. What we need to do is let them know (via various methods) that we will not let them run amok all over the Middle East and then...Iran gets the bomb, done deal, game over for the West. We can’t bomb all of them but we can restore SOME of our lost (during 2008-present) deterrent force.

That’s completely nuts. First of all, what insane interest has me benefit by replacing Assad with Al Qeida? Next, Assad is allied with Iran.
The worry isn’t that Iran might send troops and jets to fight us squarely in Syria. Iran might decide to help Assad by closing the Straights of Hormuz.

Sure, with a massive navy effort, we could prevail there. But in the meantime we all start paying 8 bucks a gallon for gasoline.
The effect on our economy of a war in those shipping lanes would be devastating.

Yeah this thing could be very nasty. And to restore our lost pride? Look for a better cause, joining into a moslem civil war where both sides hate us is utterly retarded.

Might as well paint a Crescent on our jets.

Our pride, honor, and deterrent came from one thing. Our strong military came from our strong and worthy society. If you feel our deterrent gone, it is because we are rotting internally.

Our national rot cannot be stopped by military adventures and some cool dogfights.
It is time to turn inward and stop the destruction of our nation. We have a communist president who has gone around Africa and Russia championing sodomy. Our military is feminized and homosexualized. Our economy is a shambles, run by a fascist blending of business and government.

We will never be respected, a deterrent, or the good guys in the world again until we are honorable at home. There is no shortcut.

Last, these military adventures are nothing but a shell game to divert our attention away from everything at home.

Your analysis is 100% correct but while we try to heal the nation and go back to the basic values that made America great, we have external threats only growing due to our perceived weakness - we can't ignore them.

In addition, all of those freepers who think we can just ignore these threats because it is not in our interest right now should know that we ignored international threats for years until they came knocking on our door (9/11). If we shirk from showing some kind of determination, we will most definitely get another attack on our soil once again, it is for sure.

I don't want a war either but neither can I turn a blind eye to Iran. She has her cross hairs on us, Israel and the West and when (if) she gets the bomb we will be blackmailed seriously, all over the planet. So you will be paying 20 bucks for a gallon at that point...
