Okay, there's this quote in a comment, but I could not find that in the article. I've also read (but have no first hand knowledge) that any kind of amphetamine will look the same, so a trace could be meth or the Adderal. Hopefully that info is on the thread.

broketheinterweb 1 hour ago

Can somebody help me understand this before I get nuts and write my own article?

“The coroner does not believe the traces of THC and methamphetamine contributed to the crash.” So, we’re back to this being really suspicious, right? The experts involved have stated that it wasn’t the drugs. So it was ____________?

I may have found that quote after all. But your assertion that he was a tweaker and your gleefulness is really odd. Here's another comment:

sack_o_woe 4 hours ago

I find the lack of support from spouse and brother at least a little odd. Somebody read them the riot act like the Lavabit guy? The DMT is a red herring. When will we know all the movements and contacts of his final 24 hours? Reminds me of Marilyn Monroe buying furniture the day before she died.

Another red flag is that every "quote" from brother or whoever is all second to third hand. How about a reporter talking directly to, say, the brother, and quoting him directly? Anything third hand is very dubious.

Actually, the coroner’s report read : ‘prior, but not recent usage’.

I don’t know why this is so difficult. To recap; I said Hasting was on meth. Even UCAN admits that. My sources?

The links in post 31 and 35.

http://www.laweekly.com/2013-08-22/news/michael-hastings-crash/full/

In that article it says... “Thigpen argues that Hastings was not doing anything harder than pot. She strongly disputes the coroner’s suggestion that Hastings was taking methamphetamine, saying it was much more likely the amphetamine found in his system came from Adderall. (A coroner’s spokesman acknowledged that the amphetamine could have come from either Adderall or meth.)”

And so when I posted the coroner said he was on meth before he said he Wasn’t on meth (post 49) I’m using sources and facts right from this article.

Read it. Here again is the link.

While you read that link - read the link in that link and stay informed....

Michael Hastings’ Coroner’s Report Reveals Likely Meth, Marijuana Use

http://blogs.laweekly.com/informer/2013/08/michael_hastings_meth_cocaine_marijuana_dmt_death.php

I realize this is a long thread and it is hard to follow replies, but again - I mentioned meth because the coroner did.

And before you go claiming I believe the coroner, see reply #14 where I DON’T trust the coroners office.

The coroner's final report on journalist Michael Hastings, who died in a fiery one-car accident in June, revealed that he had marijuana and a trace of amphetamine, "consistent with possible intake of methamphetamine,"* in his blood.

Already dissected that it could easily have been Adderall; apparently not detectable which kind. So your assertion that he was a tweaker and that the coroner said he was on meth are not accurate. In fact the headline says "like" meth traces, but that is not borne out in the article. Misleading headlines are more common than not.

Family members were sufficiently concerned with his drug use, the report says, that they came to L.A. to get him to "go to detox." Family members told investigators they believed he was taking cocaine and the psychedelic drug DMT:

And no evidence of either one. And more third hand quotes, yippee.

Those last two substances, however, didn't turn up in the coroner's toxicology report. And investigators downplayed the role of drugs, concluding that the marijuana was probably taken "hours earlier" and that the amphetamine was "unlikely to have an intoxicative effect at the time of the accident"

So even these unnamed and third hand investigators admit that whatever traces of whatever did not affect the crash. All your links disprove or at best, do not in any prove or give support to your assertion that Hastings was stoned out of his mind at the time of the crash. And your glee is duly noted.

*[Added at 1:53 p.m.]: A coroner's spokesman told the Weekly that the amphetamine in his system could have been a result of taking attention deficit hyperactivity disorder drug Adderall, which contains amphetamine. Hastings wrote that he had taken Adderall in the past.

I consider it very interesting that to Responsibility2nd it is very important that Hasting was stoned out of his mind and a tweaker.

Okay, finally got the scribd coroner’s report, traces of amphetimine consistent with meth use. But so small as to not have had anything to do with the crash, same thing THC. And apparently could have been Adderol or whatever it’s called.

So you are correct and the coroner did indeed use the word “meth” but your repeated insistence that he was stoned out of his mind is not backed up by the coroner’s toxicology report. Plus the fact that the amphetimine traces could have been other kinds of amphetimines.

Seriously Little J, anyone with ADD or ADHD taking Adderal has traces of amphetamine in their system. Do you know how many people must be taking it?

Traces of MaryJane in a crash autopsy, does not indicate someone was “stoned out of their mind”. Good Lord people wake the eff up. That stuff stays in your system for months. There is an entire cottage industry of products, methods, tricks etc. to get it out of your system for drug tests. In my military days, guys were always crapping their pants at random whiz quiz time, but figured odds were good since they only tested a small sample of everyone made to go urinate.

Personally, I think he was heading toward LAX to catch an early 6/7am flight out of town.

Southwest or some other carrier would have him on their passenger list, but they may be keeping mum.

I don’t think he booked his airline seat ahead of time.

If a person gets paranoid and starts telling folks FBI is investigating him, and asks to borrow their car at Midnight b/c his car “has been tampered with,” I’m assuming the guy would hustle to LAX, approach the counter(s) and say “What’s your next flight to London or Paris?”

Booking in advance would alert FBI that (i) He’s fleeing, (ii) Where he’s fleeing to, (iii) Approx when he’d drive to LAX, and (iv) Exactly when he’d be inside the airport waiting for his flight to depart.

He sounds plenty paranoid to “not help FBI by booking his ticket in advance.”

“[Pot] stuff stays in your system for months.”

Exactly.

In the insurance business, they drug-test everybody before issuing Life Insurance (above the lowest tier), to see if they’re doing drugs.

They can detect marijuana for at least a few weeks after it’s been smoked.

Cocaine clears the system in approx 5 days.

Can you still buy an airline ticket like that? Or has 9/11 changed everything?

” [ Family members told investigators that Hastings had been using the hallucinogenic dimethyltryptamine, or DMT, though the drug was not detected in a blood test after the crash.]”

Can somebody please tell me what the hell DMT is?

I’ve heard of every drug on the planet, except DMT.

I lived in LA then NYC for years. Despite everybody doing drugs, nobody ever said “DMT.” Not even once.

I’d never heard of it before this Hastings story.

I agree with you. The person I am disagreeing with keeps touting that Hastings was a raving tweaker because of the coroner’s report. He wants Hastings to have been a raving tweaker but there is nothing to support that theory. Responsibility2nd, you should read techworker’s comment.

<< What did he know?
What did Andrew Breitbart know?
Why did the Chief Justice abruptly change his views on 0bamacare?
Why hasn’t Boehner not appointed a Special Prosecutor for: Fast and Furious? Benghazi? IRSgate? NSA Scandal? >>

Of course, those can all be answered with 3 simple letters: N, S, and A.

And the LA cops (in their eagerness to downplay the arsenc poisoning that they already knew had occurred) claimed that Cormier had been sent home by the doctors 2 days earlier, even though Cormier was experiencing classic symptoms of arsenic poisoning and had said he thought he had been poisoned, because he probably just had a perforated bowel - which doctors would know would be fatal if untreated. Either those doctors lied to the police, those doctors are totally incompetent, those doctors intended Cormier to die, or the police lied about what the doctors actually said. Or all the above.

And the LAPD never even tried to find out who poisoned Cormier - even though pinpointing when and where he was poisoned should have been a piece of cake, because the symptoms in such a blatant poisoning set on a half-hour after exposure. Killers don’t usually use that much arsenic at once, because it is so easy for them to be caught. The use of so much arsenic suggests two things: they wanted the poisoning to be very obvious very quickly (which would be the case if it was timed to send a message to the people who would have known Cormier’s symptoms and had the medical knowledge to put two and two together.... like the coroner...), and they trusted that the police would not investigate. Probably because it was arranged in advance for the police to not investigate...

In any event, there are a lot of reasons to be suspicious of both the LAPD and the autopsy in the Breitbart case, and it’s the same people handling the Hastings case. If they got the message once, they probably still understood the message. The incident with the cops a week later might have just been a friendly reminder...
