The article didn’t give any background on the dispute. All they showed was a bunch of trash on the guy’s property. Was his land seized because he didn’t clean it up? There is plenty of the story left out.
The property was run down, junky, trashy, an eyesore and all that. But if the “Township” was trying to harass him into cleaning it up, etc. by taking his property, then they got their answer.
apparently, on top of relieving him of his property, the city was going to euthanize his dogs.
I think it read that they’d taken the dogs in after the incident, but that no one would take them in so they are going to kill them.
What this gestapo town did was told him he must leave his property and never occupy it again unless he had the proper permits. Basically, some townies didn’t like the eyesore property so they used government to get their way.
Reminds one of Carl Drega...
Thanks for posting that as there are not a lot of media outlets posting the truth about the matter.
DEY TOOK MEH JAHB.
Need more input.
It’s hard to pick a side to be on without more info.
A man’s home is his castle, but a filthy castle is a nasty thing to live next to.
If that's the case, then pretty much everybody on "American Pickers" is at risk of a property seizure.
Of course you’re right. They could have banded together and went and cleaned it up in a day. The guy was living in his car. Legally, his property as well as the land, living on SS at $600/month.
To tell him to LEAVE and never occupy it again (without their silly-ass permits) is theft by taking, IMO).
They weren’t interested in helping him; they wanted him gone, and he gave them HIS answer.
He owed no taxes but had some zoning violations. They were going to take his land (in a rural area). That sums it up.
Imagine how this would have turned out if the city officials had used the same effort to help this disabled man clean the place up?
What am I thinking?
Taking a man’s land is bad enough but killing his dogs after the fact is just evil. Thanks to XKeyscore, I’m hesitant to say what I’m thinking but I’ll bet you can guess.
In some jurisdictions, that is precisely the case.
and they were going to kill his dogs.
Thank you. Forgot to add that.
Has no money, but keeps TWO dogs. He also looked like he could work, but of course why work when you can "get by" on government handouts. I wonder who he voted for in the last election. I'm guessing 0bama, because if it were Romney then the headline would read "Republican shoots three people."
Property is messy, but does that mean the local government has the right to steal it? Government at its core is nothing but a bunch of self rightous thieves lining their pockets and the pockets of thei cronies at the expense of others.
