Rep. Peter King says Al Qaeda threat is 'very specific' as US issues travel alert
FoxNews.com ^ | 8/3/2013

The Al Qaeda threat that prompted the State Department to issue a worldwide travel alert and close down 21 embassies and consulates for the weekend is serious and 'very specific,' Rep. Peter King, chairman of the Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence, said Friday.

“We’re not certain exactly where something might happen but it’s very specific as to when and it’s also very specific as to the fact that it is going to happen, so we have to be on alert everywhere,” the New York Republican told WINS-AM.

The travel alert was the first of its kind since an announcement preceding the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It came as Washington prepared to close its embassies and consulates throughout the Muslim world this Sunday over security concerns.

U.S. officials have not offered many details on the nature of the threat, but apparently are taking it seriously.

A White House official said Friday night President Obama was being updated on "a potential threat occurring in or emanating from the Arabian Peninsula."

Question: When we close down embassies, what happens to the secure files in those embassies? Are they moved to other, more secure locations?

I have a fun idea. How about we hold the Saudis responsible and put them on notice. Any attack, and we nuke mecca. This Islamic crap needs to stop, and its all tracing back ultimately to them.

So we announce on a Friday that we’re closing embassies on Sunday?

Imagine the shock on the terrorists’ faces when they go to attack our embassies on Sunday afternoon and find out they’re all closed...

It does smack of 'convenience'.

What better way to 'justify' the use of spying/listening in/reading emails, etc., and chance the conversation/news headlines?

Oh, look! A shiny new distraction!

Let me get this straight... the jug-eared douchebag declared that Al Qaeda “has been decimated” and then tells our about 20% of our embassies to close because of potential attacks by the same terrorist group. Yeah, that makes sense.

Fellow FReepers...That is called a "CYOA" line. A distraction. the 4th will be Laylat al-Qadr the "Night of Destiny, Night of Power, Night of Value, the Night of Decree or Night of Measures." A day of Judgment, their idea of the book of Revelations.

4 Aug believed to be the date that the Child molester Muhammad revealed the original Quran. It a Shia thing the Sunnis are not into it...BTW al Qaeda are Sunni

I am taking a wait and see approach, if nothing happens, it was an another attempt by the Administration to divert attention away from Benghazi, aka that phony scandal

"The solution is obvious, the NSA needs to collect even MORE data on Americans!"

That was my first thought when I saw King becoming the public face/salesman for this latest warning. Whether or not anything happens, we'll all be told how critical it is for the NSA to continue its data collection of domestic communications, and anyone who opposes it is unwittingly supporting the terrorists.

US (Morons in charge): “We are going to shut down the embassies on Sunday because there is a terrorist threat”

Terrorists (not as stupid as our guys, apparently): “Hey guys, let’s sleep in on Sunday. We’ll go Monday, OK?”

If the threat is so specific, why is the response so general?
Methinks, as others have opined, that this is a ruse to convince the public that spying programs are a necessity.

Funny they did not know about Boston, even after they had been warned specifically about the “Brothers” by the Russians.

Did the Russians warn the New York Times that the Boston Globe was a poor investment at the price they paid?

There is a thread here that says that this may be related to all the prison “breaks” going on over there in the ME. Plus Israel let a bunch of muzzie scum out too.

Could be some kind of coordinated attack on the muzzie holiday with these people.

Maybe in honor of O’s birthday on the 4th and their successful infiltration into our government, they’re going to blow up stuff?

Or maybe there’s a big birthday party for him in the ME and all embassy staff are required to attend?

;)

Here's an idea...how bout beefing up security to the max. Put a hundred seasoned marines in each compound with a couple of hundred waiting offsite to act.

Give these guys rockets and mortars, heavy machine guns. Fly C-130’s above them during the night.

These muzzies understand one thing only, force.

Instead of the usual liberal wussy response...show power and might and determination and patriotism.

Embassy soil is sovereign U.S. territory...defend it!

Man these liberal are sickening.

"The travel alert was the first of its kind since an announcement preceding the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks."

Guess I'll have to look back - there was "an announcement preceding the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks".

Then why didn't they beef up security or get everyone out.

Guess I'm forgetful. I just don't remember a travel alert announcement for 9/11/2012.

Bad memory, I guess.

The embassies are only closed to the public; the staff is still on duty. As far as security goes, it is upgraded. If there was a breach, sensitive papers are shredded and burned and hard drives are dropped into a chemical soup that destroys them. The people that do this know what they are doing, and while what I told you isn’t classified, don’t ask me how I know it.

What we need is an independent rogue group that has the wherewithal and reputation to threaten such things and carry them out if need be.

Like Travolta's character in "Swordfish"

Methinks, as others have opined, that this is a ruse to convince the public that spying programs are a necessity.

Going down the conspiracy Alice in Wonderland trail, if one looks at all the movies that came out this year concerning attacks on the President, if you are into conspiracies, perhaps you should expect an attack similar to those movie plots. Hollywood is known historically to have numerous CIA operatives.

I don't trust King (and he's my congressman).

I believe he knew that Benghazi was a terrorist attack while Obama and Hillary were saying it was a spontaneous demonstration caused by a movie.

Add to that King supported Bill Clinton back during his impeachment.
