A passenger train derailed in Spain yesterday, killing at least 77 people trapped inside the crushed cars and injuring 143.
There were Americans among the dead, according to television reports.
The tragic high-speed derailment, along a curving stretch of track in the northwestern part of the country, was Spains worst rail accident in decades, officials said.
Bodies were covered by blankets along the tracks as rescuers used pickaxes to pry open the cars and free people inside the train cars.

I don't see an explosion.
Are you sure you know what one looks like?
Palin received 59,948,323 votes in 2008.
Romney received 60,932,152 votes in 2012 - almost a million more.
It is obvious that the train has already derailed before even it appears from around the embankment.
Don’t have any training in demolitions but it sure as heck looks like a bomb detonated to me at the critical point of entry to the curve. Officials aren’t saying anything other than it was an accident. We’ve all heard that before and we also know that officials suppress information that points to terrorism if it isn’t useful to them. I will be surprised if this wasn’t an explosive derailment.
Mitt, the explosion takes place at approx. 6 seconds. Your magic underwear is affecting your vision.
You have sharp ideas. Might have been 3rd car that started the mess.
Wow, its great to know FR has such astute engineering authorities onboard.
Like most self appointed “authorities” you need to recognize the vast difference between your opinion and hard scientific evidence. You certainly have the right to state your “opinion”, but you and we have the obligation to recognize it is no more than your opinion. I did.
Until a thorough investigation determines the cause, neither of will know more than our assumption.
As others on the thread have pointed out, the passenger car is clearly off the track before you see a flash.
And, as others have pointed out, that flash is from the cables above that jumped car sparking as they break.
Your magic underwear is affecting your vision.
We've already learned that you cannot do simple math.
Are we now supposed to believe your clearly erroneous analysis of the video?
Working eyes and a rudimentary knowledge of classical mechanics are all that is needed.
This isn't a novel or a painting - opinion doesn't really enter into it.
Your compulsion to sensationalize is not my problem.
I viewed the video again on a larger viewer and the passenger car does seem to jump before what appears to be an explosion. Still, I trust nothing these days - even my own eyes. Also, there is a rich Muslim tradition of train bombings in Spain to consider:

As I posted above, the driver admits going 118 MPH on a section designed for 49. He sounds like he did intentionally, amazing as that sounds. But as the quote says, it still has to be confirmed.
Thinking about it some more, maybe the driver over road the dead man switch and just fell asleep.
LOL.
We’ll see won’t we.
Try to put your disdain for attractive, intelligent conservative women behind you and grasp this point: The only reason McCain got anywhere near Obama was Sarah Palin. Contrast that with how many voters had to hold their nose and vote for Romney and in fact would’ve voted for a rock instead of Obama.
apologies to original poster for going off subject.
Well said. :)
He was goin’ down the track
At ninety miles an hour
When his whistle broke into a scream
They found him in the wreck
With his hand on the throttle
Scalded to death by the steam.

Wideawake had disdain for false information.
I have no disdain for Sarah Palin.
You, however, have disdain for math.
I am not sure why misreporting easily checkable facts about Sarah Palin helps her in any way.
