Trayvon Martin: ADL reacts
jta.org ^ | July 15, 2013 | Joe Winkler

Posted on 07/15/2013 11:14:43 AM PDT by Tailgunner Joe

The ADL has released a statement in the wake of the non-guilty verdict for George Zimmerman that accepts the legality of the verdict while questioning the wisdom of the stand-your-ground laws that allowed Zimmerman to use deadly force in self-defense. The statement also raises the need to explore many unresolved issues of race in the country:

We have great faith in America’s jury system and do not question the verdict in the Zimmerman case.

However, this case raises serious questions about the wisdom of stand-your-ground laws and the easy access to concealed weapons permits in states like Florida, where more than one million permits have been issued since 1987 when the state’s concealed weapons law went into effect. Had neither been in place, this tragedy may never have occurred.

There are serious, unresolved issues of race in our country, and this trial underscored the need to explore these issues more fully. Hopefully, the debate concerning the justice of the verdict in the Zimmerman case will inspire a continued much-needed discussion about the lingering impact of racism in society.

Stand Your Ground did not come into play in the Zimmerman trial. Zimmerman’s plea of innocence was pure self defense.

I will STAND MY GROUND where I live—not only in my own self-defense, but in defense of my animals. Rustling didn’t end with Marshall Dillon.

Stand your ground laws only become applicable when you have a reasonable means of escape.

The is not the case when someone is sitting on you, pinning you to the ground, punching you in the face, smashing your head on the concrete...

Perfect example of the advisability of keeping your mouth shut to hide your ignorance.

What does the Stand Your Ground Law have to do with the Zimmerman case? Nothing.

Yeah I can’t see how this would have been any different if it had happened here in Michigan where we technically don’t have a stand your ground law. If someone attacks you, you can still end it with a gun. In fact you can use a gun to defend someone else.

Stand your ground was not in play here. And had Zimmerman not been armed, it well could have been him on the slab at the coroner's.

And that is the entire point of concealed carry. It puts the thugs on the slab instead of their targets.

He wasn’t “standing his ground” - he was fighting for his life!

Nothing scares the ADL any more than a white gun owner...

“However, this case raises serious questions about the wisdom of stand-your-ground laws ...”

Stand your Ground had nothing to do with this case..

this tragedy may never have occurred

That's true.

A different and far worse tragedy would have occurred: the brutal beating death of George Zimmerman by what would have been termed "an unknown assailant wearing a hooded sweatshirt", and would have never gone any further then the Sanford local news.

Stand-your-ground laws rightfully provide that criminals may not drive citizens from where they have a right to be by nullifying their right to self defense. Without such laws, criminals can force citizens to cower inside their homes with whatever weapons they are allowed to keep there.

I’m so old I remember when the ADL was concerned with Jewish issues and was not a complete tool of the Democrat Machine.

(It’s never been great. The JDL is better.)

There are two obvious lesson to be taken from the George Zimmerman acquittal:

1. The concealed carry law worked when it was needed.

2. Self-defense law of the state of Florida worked as intended when it was needed.

Right!

Stand your ground? He was flat on his ass on the ground getting pounded, it's called, "ground and pound."

The statement also raises the need to explore many unresolved issues of race in the country:

Such as?

Black (African Americans) refuse to see that race was not an issue in thise case. Stan Your Ground law was not an issue. This case was about a man defending himself against a vicious assualt by an out-of-control teenager.

Perhaps this is too simple for these simpletons . . . . . . . ??

Stand Your Ground did not come into play in the Zimmerman trial.

It did, however, come into play in the Trayvon Martin trial, when he explained how he came within a hair's breadth of killing his stalker, that "Scary looking Cracker" Zimmerman.

Oh, wait, there was no Martin trial, because Zimmerman killed the dear sweet, innocent lad in SELF DEFENSE!!!

The liberals are so transparent, it has become obvious, that they planned all along to make this about “Stand Your Ground”, despite the fact that the last had nothing to do with it.

Selective editing? That is a favorite trick of the MSM, deleting a word here and there to alter the meaning of a statement. You should strive to be better than that.
