Zimmerman could still be held responsible for Martin's death
CNN ^ | July 14, 2013 | Ben Brumfield

But a court could still hold him accountable for the death.

Two options, however, are available: A civil suit, or a civil rights suit.

The NAACP is pushing the U.S. Department of Justice to file a civil rights suit.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson told CNN's "New Day" on Sunday that his Rainbow PUSH Coalition also wants the Justice Department to look into possible civil rights violations in the case.

The biggest problem for Zimmerman is that he got the attention of the Obama re-election planners. Now, “the won”’s worshipers just won’t let it go.

Never mind that thousands of black young adult “kids/children” (as the media likes to call the hoodlum Trayvon) have died since Trayvon’s death. BTW, how many black babies have been slaughtered in abortion mills since this incident?

Zimmerman’s problem was Obama and Obama’s need for civil unrest.

Civil offense, I can see — that’s just a money case, right?
Civil Rights offense? That’s a separate category.

I don’t see how Zimmerman could (let alone “did”) violate anyone’s civil rights.

That's too bad. Martin is responsible for Martin's death.

I was listening to some pundit on PMSNBC saying that someone needs to be held accountable for Trayvon's death. I immediately thought of his parents - the ones legally responsible for teaching him to be a responsible productive member of society. Perhaps someone should question them on why they deemed it appropriate to raise such a violent predatory young man.

-- Can a private citizen violate another private citizen's civil rights? --

Yes, there is a federal hate crime statute that is independent of state law. Federal prosecutors have more of an uphill battle than the corrupt prosecutors in the state of Florida had. Not only do the feds have to show hatred, ill will or similar, there has to be evidence that the hatred is racially motivated. Given the DOJ investigation into Zimmerman's attitude toward black people, there is not just a lack of evidence, but the evidence points the other way.

Not to say the federal prosecutors are ethical, they aren't, not by a long shot.

Jackson isn’t racist. He’s still holding out for a verdict he can accept.

I have no doubt at all, that the inJustice Department will help him out.

-- I've heard that Florida self defense laws forbid any civil actions after acquittal. --

Nope. The burden of proving justified use of force is lower (for Zimmerman) in a criminal trial, and doesn't reach the more likely than not threshold that results in immunity.

O'Mara dared Martin / Crump to sue Zimmerman. O'Mara will assert immunity in the civil case, almost certainly win it, and then Crump has to pay the costs of Zimmerman's defense, plus damages for Zimmerman having to attend to a meritless suit.

In yesterday’s post-verdict presser, Mark O’Mara stated GZ would be invoking “Civil Immunity” for any civil suit brought against GZ. Civil immunity means the LOSER pays. Jesse won’t put his cash up.

AFter the NOt GUILTY verdict was read, I could see the anguish, I could feel the hurt, and sense of disbelief, and hear the dispair in the voices of those who had so much emotion invested in a guilty verdict. No, Im not talking about the family of Trayvon, Im talking about the reporters on CNN, MSNBC, and HLN.

I keep hearing some trayvon supporters in the media talking about a black woman in florida who got 30 years for shooting a gun in the air. something to do with protecting herself from her ex husband. they are crying about the injustice of it all. they keep repeating that stand your ground has to go. ANybody know what that case is about? or are they mischaracterizing the case.

When Jesse Jackson makes his mission to care about the hundreds of black “children” murdered by his own people yearly in his own home town of Chicago, that is the day I will listen to anything he has to say.

"Perhaps I’m wrong, but I thought the civil rights laws only came into play with state agents acting under color of law. That’s how they got the convictions in the Rodney king case. Cops—state agents. Zimmerman was NOT acting as an agent of the state nor was he acting under color of law.

any FReeper attorneys in the house who can more intelligently comment. This?"

Heaven knows I'm no legal scholar, but this morning I heard Peter Johnson Jr., Fox's legal guy, say that the Justice Department could bring charges against Zim, and that he could conceivably get the death penalty.

Let Jesse go for it... Democrats are becoming the party of angry blacks and white liberal elites who use white guilt to stay in power.

The more people see them, the more they’ll see through them... We need to encourage them...
