Mexico takes over from the U.S. as the fattest nation on earth

Part of the difficulty is that the crisis has taken hold rapidly - In 1989, fewer than 10 percent of Mexican adults had any weight problems.

Studies show that Mexicans are eating more processed foods than ever before and fewer whole grains and vegetables.

This year was the first time Mexico has inched ahead into first place, with a 32.8 per cent obesity rate to America's 31.8 per cent.

However, this was only among the most populated countries of the world.

Both Mexico and the U.S. have nothing on the small countries such as American Samoa in the Pacific where the rate of overweight inhabitants has now reached 95 per cent.

Around 70 percent of Mexican adults are now classified as overweight Diabetes affects one in every six adults in the South American country Only 10 per cent overweight in 1989 - before fast food was widely available The young and poor are the worst-affected groups

Around 70 per cent of Mexican adults are now overweight and a third of them are obese, causing a range of serious health problems.

Experts say four fifths of overweight children will remain so their entire lives.

Abelardo Avila from Mexico's National Nutrition Institute said: 'The worst thing is the children are becoming programmed for obesity.'

The United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) announced two years ago that the national weight gain had reached emergency levels, but it has proved difficult for the authorities to tackle.

Maybe the illegals really are heading back to Mexico.

That would explain the shift in the fatness from here to there.

A big part of the problem is the expanding definition of obesity. When I was a kid, only people that were built like Jabba the Hut were considered obese.

Now, it is nearly everybody. I once ran a BMI on the entire Pittsburgh Steelers team, the last year they won the Super Bowl. I had the same BMI as Troy Polimalu, then one of the finest defensive tackles to play the game.

You guessed it: we're both obese by BMI definition. So is about 75% of the rest of the team and all but one of the remaining 25% is overweight by government definition.

Keep this fact in mind when the mindless Catholic guilt-tripping priests and other liberal Christians try to tell you that we must destroy our own society to help "the poor."

For the most part, the poor outside of Africa and other repressive countries are the way they are because of their own bad choices and seemly limitless potential for self-destructive behavior.

The world is rapidly emerging from poverty, and what constitutes "poor" today has no resemblance to any biblical understanding of poverty.

For Christianity to remain relevant, it has to get rid of the utopian socialist fantasies it adopted in the 19th and 20th centuries, and start demanding INDIVIDUALS change their behavior rather top-down government enforcement of what they think is "fair."

It's from eating all those Samoa’s.

Jerry Lewis:

Two cannibals are having a conversation over dinner. One cannibal says to the other: “I can't stand my mother-in-law”

The other replies: “well, just eat the rice then”
