House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi is lauging off a letter from a top pro-life priest who is asking her to revise her pro-abortion position to make it conform to the pro-life teachings of the Catholic Church or to leave the Church.
LifeNews reported on Father Frank Pavones letter to House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Pavone made an appearance on Fox News this weekend to underscore his point.
In an interview with the liberal web site Think Progress, Pelosi attacked Pavone, calling him hysterical:
"My faith is very deep and has been my whole life. I love my faith and my faith has nothing to do with whoever he is. The arrogance of it all! Its like something ancient, medieval The Church taught me as I was growing up that every person has a free will and has the responsibility to live up to a moral standard. And I respect womens judgment and values to do that.
Whether this priest thinks his judgment should be another womans judgment is absolutely ridiculous to me. But nonetheless its what they say. I grant the Church where they are on abortion. Thats where they are, thats where they have to be. But my faith isnt about what their position is. My faith is about, Christ is my savior, the church is his church, and has nothing to do with Priests for Life I wouldnt even dignify whatever it is they said. It was a highly emotional statement that they made. If it were more intellectual I might have paid attention to it. He was acting hysterically."
Below is the video of Pavone’s appearance followed by the full text of the open letter to Pelosi.
Dear Mrs. Pelosi,
Last Thursday, June 13, you were asked a question in a press briefing that you declined to answer. The question was, What is the moral difference between what Dr. Gosnell did to a baby born alive at 23 weeks and aborting her moments before birth?
Given the fact that the Gosnell case has been national news for months now, and that Congress, where you serve as House Democratic Leader, was about to have a vote on banning abortion after 20 weeks fetal age, this was a legitimate question.
Instead of even attempting to answer the question, you resorted to judgmental ad hominem attacks on the reporter who asked it, saying, You obviously have an agenda. Youre not interested in having an answer.
Mrs. Pelosi, the problem is that youre not interested in giving an answer.
Your refusal to answer this question is consistent with your failure to provide an answer to a similar question from me and the members of my Priests for Life staff. Several years ago, we visited your office with the diagrams of dismemberment abortion at 23 weeks, and asked the simple question, When you say the word abortion, is this what you mean? In response, nothing but silence has emanated from your office.
In what way is this refusal to address an issue of such national importance consistent with the leadership role you are supposed to be exercising? Public servants are supposed to be able to tell the difference between serving the public and killing the public. Apparently, you cant. Otherwise, you would have been able to explain the difference between a legal medical procedure that kills a baby inside the womb and an act of murder for which Dr. Gosnell is now serving life sentences for killing the same baby outside the womb.
Moreover, you stated at the press briefing on June 13, As a practicing and respectful Catholic, this is sacred ground to me when we talk about this. I dont think it should have anything to do with politics.
With this statement, you make a mockery of the Catholic faith and of the tens of millions of Americans who consider themselves practicing and respectful Catholics and who find the killing of children whether inside or outside the womb reprehensible.
You speak here of Catholic faith as if it is supposed to hide us from reality instead of lead us to face reality, as if it is supposed to confuse basic moral truths instead of clarify them, and as if it is supposed to help us escape the hard moral questions of life rather than help us confront them.
Whatever Catholic faith you claim to respect and practice, it is not the faith that the Catholic Church teaches. And I speak for countless Catholics when I say that its time for you to stop speaking as if it were.
Abortion is not sacred ground; it is sacrilegious ground. To imagine God giving the slightest approval to an act that dismembers a child he created is offensive to both faith and reason.
And to say that a question about the difference between a legal medical procedure and murder should not have anything to do with politics reveals a profound failure to understand your own political responsibilities, which start with the duty to secure the God-given right to life of every citizen.
Mrs. Pelosi, for decades you have gotten away with betraying and misrepresenting the Catholic faith as well as the responsibilities of public office. We have had enough of it. Either exercise your duties as a public servant and a Catholic, or have the honesty to formally renounce them.
Sincerely,
Fr. Frank Pavone National Director, Priests for Life
The Bishops have a historic and sacred duty to formally and publicly excommunicate heretics. Their failure to excommunicate pro abortion heretics has confused the faithful and damaged the moral standing of the Church. Every time Cardinal Dolan gives an interview, this question should be raised.
I don’t believe any of these people believe in God. They’re so egotistical they believe they ARE gods and only they can save mankind. And stopping population growth through abortion is step one. Bringing more Mexicans in to do the farm work is another. They’re final goal is one world government which means the U.S. must be destroyed. Sadly, there are way too many useful idiots in this country who gladly get closer to the cattle cars every time they vote.
Sad but true.
...has the responsibility to follow Jesus' example of obedience to God.
Good Question!!!! Why hasn’t she been excommunicated???!!!
Actually, Liberalism IS a Religion and they have made a mockery of GOD and Christianity by adopting aborted babies as their sacrificial lamb.
Don’t believe me? Just tell a liberal that you believe in all of the tenants of Liberalism except abortion and they will not accept you as a true believer/member of their religion. To them a pro-life Liberal is an oxymoron.
“Thats where they are, thats where they have to be. But my faith isnt about what their position is.”
In this statement, she rejects any claim to Catholicism.
“The Bishop sends you a letter by personal messenger. The public will not know about it (unless the receiver makes it known). This is done in the hopes that the sinner will repent and return to Jesus. They do not do the bell, book and candle thing anymore, though I wish they would.”
So she could have been excommunicated and we wouldn’t know about it?
She was very disrespectful towards the priest.
She is disrespectful of God and his priests and anyone else who gets in the way of her worshiping herself. She is, indeed, her own god. I pray she repents and turns to our Merciful Savior for forgiveness.
I just read an article called “When Malthusians Become Messiahs”. It appears apt here.
Thanks for your reponse.
Seems the Church Leadership; and most significantly, the Pope; are 'okay' with this; if one can fairly judge by 'observation'. OTOH;perhaps; as we speak.
Meantime; Nancy Pelosi; it appears at this time; has no public scheduling whereby the challenge of Moral Boundaries is brought to her attention; by her Church Leadership.
this woman is pure evil
Catholic ping!
I meant here on earth where we have to put up with her.
The really freaky thing is that someone-anyone could sit in church, any church, for years and years and in the end have all their listening, learning, study, fellowshipping etc etc etc summed up in such a disjointed diatribe.
It would have been more effective to simply smack them upside the head with a Bible the moment they walked in the door.
May God have mercy.
Priests for Life should respond to her citing this statement and inform her she should no longer refer to herself as a 'Catholic' because she says as much here.
I don't want to imagine what fate awaits someone with the audacity to declare that their faith has 'evolved' beyond that of scripture while simultaneously declaring Christ is their Savior.
The Bible actually speaks to this: "I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth." Rev 3:15-16
So just excommunicate her and be done with it.
"If it were more intellectual I might have paid attention to it. He was acting hysterically."
So, to Nancy stating what the Church has taught for nearly 2000 years is "acting hysterically". It figures.
While Nancy is clearly wrong, the people who are playing word games themselves shouldn't be so critical of poor old liar Nancy. The lowest estimate of the number of infants murdered by contraceptives is three times the number murdered by other means. Therefore it's safe to say that people who prefer pharmaceutical infanticide to self control are killing at a bare minimum six thousand infants every day.
Nancy isn't a bit worse than the tens of millions of other folks who follow Eve rather than Christ. She relies on her own superior intellect and understanding rather than taking up her cross and following Christ but claims to be following Christ when in reality she's a dedicated follower of Nancy. The anti-Catholic crowd should be proud of Nancy for no longer being Catholic now that she espouses the same doctrine the anti-Catholic crowd preach.
No "fear and trembling" for Nancy, she figures she can apply a little Superslick Christian Liberty Grease", and slide past any of the Ten Commandments that are inconvenient. Like tens of millions of others, she figures if she's wrong, it's God's fault for giving her a faulty mind, therefore there are no consequences anyway. So, if it gets votes or otherwise suits your personal agenda, sin boldly.
The only difference is that Nancy doesn't play the game and sanctimoniously decry invasive abortion then wink and nod at the the other two thirds of abortions committed by pharmaceutical means. Apparently a lot of folks believe God will excuse those who wink and a nod at their favorite form of abortion but turn around and punish Nancy for making a big public display of supporting all forms of abortion.
