Sarah Murgnahan, the 10-year-old girl dying of cystic fibrosis, is getting a brand new pair of lungs.

CF will effect the new lungs as well. I had a childhood friend that lived a lot longer than most but lost his life in his late 20’s.
May she outlive Katherine Sebelius.
And folks in here who don’t want politicians making the decisions on who lives or dies are outraged at Sibelius for not doing just that exact thing,,,appointing herself as a one person decider panel on behalf of Sarah. Makes sense to me! sarc/
Thank God! Children are not 2nd class.
I wish well for Sarah, but now because of the medias intervention, some faceless person we will never know has been demoted to 2nd class citizenship and will have to die.
Oh, oh. Hannity is OUTRAGED that Sibelius didn’t appoint herself as a one person decider panel on behalf of Sarah.
Thank you lord for this amazing miracle! Please also bless and comfort the family and soul of the one who so generously gave the gift of life to a stranger.
Sarah is a little fighter, she fought til the lungs arrived..she was in a coma when she got these miracle lungs, she was at death’s door and a miracle brought this organ to her..the family of the organ donor deserves special praise, thank you donor family for this special gift and RIP To your loved one, he or she lives on in Sarah
And it doesn't hurt to have God on your side either. :)
A true miracle indeed, and the world as witness!
I add my thanks to yours to the donor family.
Nobody wanted Sebelius to decide whether Sarah lived or died. What everyone wanted was for Sebelius to examine an arbritrary policy rule that denied all children under the age of 12 an opportunity to live. Sebelius wouldn’t do that. She stood on an arbitrary policy rule and claimed it was science.
No one wants bureaucrats to decide who lives and dies. We want them to stay the hell out of the way while we make our own medical decisions.
The cf in her lungs won’t come back, but the normal life expectancy for a lung transplant is 5 to 10 years with a few making it to 15 years or so. It’s possible she could have problems with the other organs cf effects.
Amen to that. Glad this little girl got her lungs, but she was told yes that another person who never got media attention would not.
Lord, comfort and heal that individual. Reward his or her patience.
Calling the surgery part of a transplant “successful” is misleading in the extreme.
The actual, physical transplant is very easy, and almost never “fails”.
It’s what happens after that’s a problem - in the case of lung transplantation, a very, very big one. The five year survival is 55% and the ten year survival is only 30% - these numbers have not moved at all in the last ten years or so.
+1.
And needs to be repeated. Sebelius’ hands were tied. Her mouth wasn’t. She should have been out front calling for a change in what is a very arbitrary policy (making decisions strictly on age, to the exclusion of other and relevant factors).
Yeah, I expect politicans to keep themselves from intruding on a lot of things, but I also expect that they will speak out, especially on moral/ethical issues like this.
Thanks AlmondJoy. Sorry about your friend.
Thanks Whershay. I appreciate the response.
Rhetorical question: now that we have Obamacare why is even on problem here?...
