The former CIA employee who leaked details about classified secret surveillance programs to the Guardian and the Washington Post revealed himself in a story published Sunday, saying that he has no apologies for his actions.
Edward Snowden, 29, told the Guardian that he wanted his identity made public.

The support for him on Twitter has been massive and some comments have come from other countries.

The original Guardian article has been tweeted nearly 13 thousand times.
There is a rally in support of him at Union Square NYC noon tomorrow.
So you’re good with the IRS going after people for their political leanings?
WAG THE DOG!!!!!
I am starting to add the following paragraph at the end of every email I send. I am assuming that they actually read the emails with key words and just want to be a little thorn in their shoe if I can
“Have you been following the NSA scandal? Gee, I guess that means that they think we are talking about bombs, gun and terrorism. Maybe we could discuss the Constitutional aspects of this at the tea-party we’re having with the Chan’s this week. Did you get the tax paperwork filed? Isn’t the IRS website easy to use? You’d think that Obama would emphases that when he talks about taxes. The IRS forms are easier than getting a copy of a birth certificate or college transcripts. Did you hear if Mary ever got rid of the assassin bugs in her garden? I know they are predator insects but boy can they sting! One got me as a child and I thought I was going to die it felt like my arm had been set on fire or maybe that I’d been shot with an AK-47. Those things are bad news. How did the talk with Joe go? Every time I see him for some reason I think of the old cartoon in bubble gum, Bazooka Joe. I wonder why that is?
Have fun with this one data-miners”
El wrongo. And usually you are a little better able to argue a point without name calling. This leads me to think you have no serious argument beyond the emotional here.
Sorry Colonel Flagg, the days of simply trusting the US intelligence community are over. It is no longer apparent that they are working to protect us. They are morphing into an American Stasi right in front of us.
Surveil Al Qeida all you want. Nobody has the slightest issue with that. But if that truly was the goal here with the inwardly aimed NSA, then why was nothing done when Hassan was known to be a Jihadi? They HAD one right in their hands and let him go. (or more correctly promoted him, and let him counsel men fresh out of combat)
In WWII, mail to and from the war zone was opened and censored. And if an American was in contact somehow with someone in Germany, they had no doubts at all it was looked at. That’s normal. But the FBI did not claim an unlimited right to secretly open every letter in America.
We are talking about every single electronic message and call in America being captured and stored. There is not the slightest requirement that any suspicion be there for them to do it. It is the hallmark of the totalitarian state.
The Stasi never dreamed about possessing the amount of information collected by the US government. That’s just a simple fact. They were limited by the limits of human work product.
This is indeed a hill to die on. And the final proof is that astoundingly obvious muslim jihadis such as Hassan and the Tsarnaevs operate brazenly on the internet and cell network, yet, are left alone. If the effort is not after them, then why even bother?
But for Gods sake, don’t attend a TEA party breakfast.
This story has resulted in some unexpected people taking positions I am surprised by. It’s all upside down and rather Alice in Wonderland-like.
The implications of these programs are simply terrifying and listening to some of these pundits and pols today I wonder how much thought they’ve given to how quickly their whole world can dissolve as the result of human beings having this kind of power at their disposal ..
I read the article and watched the interview. Occam’s Razor would indicate that he is no more nor less than he says he is. That he was the source for the WAPO and The Guardian indicates they were also convinced.
His remarks about government archiving all communications on everyone forever, with the ability to go back years in order to digitally reconstruct someones entire life is indeed chilling.
Snowmen is a hero and I’d love to see an earthquake level that black building.
Damned iPad, Snowden not Snowmen.
0 attempt to put the genie back in the bottle!
“It’s not my fault! You go under the bus for me! Will be supplemented with uh and duh hmmm and whatever V tells him to say!
I am not at all sure that I am on the NSA’s side on this one. It is true that this surveillance has at times been effective in preventing attacks. It is also true that it is an absolutely stunning seizure of power by unelected bureaucrats.
The pun was entirely too enticing ~ and if you can’t have fun on FR, then where can you eh~
I'm not sure anyone outside of that small circle of Posties knew that ~ at that time.
We are talking about two different sorts of technology.
He didn’t tell you what he sold the information for ~ yet ~ nor does he need to. He’s already in China.
I’m good with the FBI going after people who want to kill me.
