"The boy was questioned by the principal and a sheriff's deputy, who also wanted to search the family home without a warrant, Henkelman said. "He started asking me questions about if I have firearms, and [the deputy said] he's going to have to search my house. Search my house? I just wanted to know what happened."

The ACLU is concerned but since nobody mentioned the other word that starts with G things are still ok.
“As long as we have our Constitution, we can rebuild.”
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
That is like saying that as long as we have the original drawings we can rebuild the twin towers. It takes a lot more than that. The Constitution is the written manifestation of an idea, when the people no longer understand the idea nothing can be rebuilt. I meet very few people who understand the idea and almost no one who is in power understands the idea. Our enemies have worked for decades to erase the original idea and replace it with a corrupt, distorted version that would seem comical if it were not so tragic.
Try telling the truth about the origins of this country and in most gatherings you will be shunned as a nutcase.
“I think the point is to demonize gun ownership with the younger generation”
Yes. Make them fear firearms, or the consequences of not being politically correct. Program the young ...
Ping!
I used to live in Calvert County. The deputies there had a reputation for being heavy-handed. They would stop cars driven by teenagers, without apparent cause, harass them, and search their cars without warrants.
By the way, the sheriff (it’s an elective office in MD) when I lived there was a conservative Republican, and I campaigned for him. The conduct of his deputies was puzzling and disturbing to us. Calvert County itself, unlike more urbanized parts of Maryland, is conservative and full of gun-owners. I was a precinct captain there and never had any trouble getting campaign volunteers. They were a great bunch.
I lived near there and worked in Annapolis and surrounding communities for 10 years. One of Maryland’s nicknames is “the land of pleasant living”, and it really is nice. Annapolis is full of fun people, great watering holes, nice restaurants, and boats. Deer hunting in the area is great and access is surprisingly easy. Fishing in the Chesapeake Bay was also good (although it’s declining along with the decline in water quality). Wages in the area are high, relative to many parts of the country, and it isn’t hard to find a lucrative job there. There are 4 distinct seasons, with autumn colors that rival anything you’d see in New England.
The only downside, as you noticed, is the political class there. The legislature is full of Darth Vaders and Count Dukus, and they have gerrymandered themselves into a perpetual stranglehold on the state.
MD is really two or more states. There is an enormous pool of liberalism concentrated in the DC suburbs, urban core of Baltimore and Annapolis. The rest of the state is largely conservative and Republican. Thanks to the gerrymandering that you mention rural Marylanders have little power. In order to combat this issue there is a move afoot among conservative Marylanders to register as Democrats in order to make the primaries competitive. it is hard to tell how big this movement is, but we may find out in 2014. Dem primaries here often only attract a few hundred voters in each district, so a small number of DINOs could make a big difference.
” This is so far beyond the pale that I just want to SHOOT SOMETHING.”
OK, just not one of us : )
Yes, I agree the populace needs to be good and just in this populous land of ours.
Oh, he had to complete a FOUR-PAGE questionnaire, to get the deputy to leave?
That dad needed to call up his attorney instead and tell him, "Get your ass over here, I need you NOW!!"
The good news is that young adults tend to rebel against authority...and it most likely will become trendy to have tons of guns (like it is today to have tons of tattoos).
This, if it happens, will be net-net good ..... but it could also be inflammatory w/o being necessarily helpful, given youth's talent for Getting It Wrong.
The father made a step in the wrong direction by filling out a form the authorities had no right to thrust on him. A kid armed to the teeth might make an even more substantial mistake, and play right into their hands.
This is just ridiculous.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
Charming. Now remind me, why do people still put their kids in the government schools? Haven’t figured out that one yet.
Here is a video by a Virginia defense lawyer entitled “Don’t talk to cops.”

Well.....It is not ridiculous if the plan is to make conservatives and Christians fearful of exercising their First Amendment Rights. The school has succeeded admirably.
Punishment #1:
The child now has a **permanent** record on the Internet that can be accessed by any school, neighbor, or employer.
Punishment #2:
The parents are now burdened with THOUSANDS of dollars in legal fees just to defend their son's First Amendment Rights.
Punishment #3:
The boy and his parents will go through at least a year or two of uncertainty and mental anguish of facing the possibility of prison.
The possibility of any of the above and the anguish of facing a Soviet-style show trail is enough to shut up a lot of parents and kids. They now know that the Borg is watch.
