The House Ways and Means Committee holds the first Congressional hearing on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) subjecting applicants for tax-exempt status to higher levels of scrutiny based on political leanings.
Witnesses include Acting IRS Commissioner Steve Miller who resigned on Wednesday and the Treasury Departments Inspector General Russell George for Tax Administration.
Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) said the IRS' targeting of "American taxpayers based on politics is both astounding and appalling." He stated that the Committee will "get to the bottom of this practice and ensure it never takes place again.
In announcing the hearing, Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) said that it is "essential that there be a thorough and bipartisan investigation and effective remedial action.
Since June 2011, the Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating whether the Internal Revenue Service discriminated against taxpayers based on political opinions.
Your words are marked and let me extend the Dear Leaders thanks for the demoralization work. When the right carries that message, it frees the Left for demonization and distraction.
...all they need to do is tread water while they continue to push thru Obamas agenda behind the scenes.
It’d be nice if the Texas GOP would run decent candidates against him. There were a couple of election cycles, when I lived there, that Doggett was unopposed by a GOP candidate.
Hard to get rid of them if you don’t run against them.
Krauthammer was on O’Reilly last night and he said there was a lawyer/counsel at the White House who knew on April 22 that this IRS scandal was going public.
Krauthammer then said is was inconceivable that she would not have told the president.
I wonder if nancy marks was that person.
This IRS scandal has come to life! Look for a long, hot summer.
“I didn’t say that! You said that! Did I say that? I didn’t say that! I think that’s so funny that you think I said that! I didn’t say that!”
Miller does not know if he has notes?
Marks has ties to the DOJ.
Sorry, it will lead to nothing if the GOP does not engage the kenyan and fight as hard as the Dems on this one.
This guy Roskam is good.
I am not surprised.
I seem to remember that he was redistricted out of his job but then ran in another district. I could be wrong but I’m too lazy to look it up. Austin area will never elect a conservative so it doesn’t matter who they run.
Who is this Miller guy? I’m just joining in...
he is from Northwest Chicago burbs. Pete Roskam
LOL His notes got wet because a Marine refused to hold his umbrella yesterday.
Miller is sucking air out of the lungs of those asking questions....he has thus far dodged everything regardless ...they are being easy on him IMO.
They could press him hard enough to burst...because he;s out either way.
former acting IRS Commissioner Steve Miller, who just got forcibly retired about a month early.
Miller is the guy getting grilled by a much better lawyer, Peter Roskam. LOL!
Miller ... “I’d have to check my notes”
Roskam “You have notes?”
Miller ... “I don’t know”
Roskam “You just said you’d have to check your notes”
Miller ... “C’mon”
Roskam “So you don’t have notes”
Priceless ...
Miller already getting flustered. His disgust that he is showing looks BAD.
I think the Reps are smelling blood in the water.
Yep. Priceless.
