So my advice to Northwestern Universitys Mexican students is to buck up, grow some skin, enjoy the day and be thankful that we dont celebrate by mimicking a group of marauding Mexican drug lords or fence-destroying illegal immigrants.

I got my MBA at Northwestern. The undergraduates are a bunch of PC loons.

OK!
I’d love to see May 5th Cinco De Mayo celebrations stop.
And all other Mexican holiday celebrations stop to.
Their culture is offensive I agree!

Then maybe they need to stop calling themselves Mexican and become real Americans. That is if their culture embarrasses them so much.

So wearing green bowler hats, eating corned beef sammiches and drinking green beer and guiness is not allowed on St. Pattys day either...

I thought ‘sinko de mayo’ was about a shipment of mayonnaise lost onroute, at sea.

There’s an easy solution to that problem: Go the hell back to the cesspool—Mexico—from which you have temporarily escaped! Or shut up and be a good guest in our country.

So we should celebrate it with fireworks and cookouts? And beer? Sounds good.

There's always some self-righteous pecker around telling you what to do. If I want to drink tequila and eat tacos, it's nobody’s business but my own, any day of the year.

Yeah, that analogy to the founding of the United States of America was apt. Nobody ever drinks beer or eats hot dogs on the 4th of July.

I agree. Foreign holidays needs to stay in foreign countries. But, I will eat friggin’ tacos any day I want and a bunch of crybaby students can just deal with it.

These students are right. Drinking tequila and eating tacos are stereotypes and aren’t authentic Mexican behavior. That’s why I prefer to celebrate Cinco de Mayo by milling around in a 7-11 parking lot all day.
To: cap10mike
So whaddya suggest for cinco de mayo, lox and bagels?
Everybody drinks green beer & guinness on st. Paddys day, followed up by corned beef and cabbage. Do people of Irish descent get all worked up about these stereotypes? in short, no. (personally, I don't mind the stereotypes at all- especially if you're buying a round or two for me)
