I know you won't believe this, but I'll say it anyway: the military's culture hasn't changed a lot over the years, . . .

You're either misinformed, or intentionally naive. My family's military service goes way back. Every generation has served since 1776. The culture hasn't changed a lot over the years? Yeah, sure, perhaps in some other country, or on another planet.

my feelings too, from what I have seen to having pals still serve to seeing crosses taken down to homosexuals trying to get married quarters by lying to skinny unfit or very overweight women joining.
Damn right it changed and today we have officers who care more about their own promotion it seems than the country.

BTW Thanks for the service from your family pal, looks to me I will be the last from my family sadly and now my oldest is looking at other avenues
