On his radio show last week, Geraldo Rivera applauded the Associated Press’ decision to drop the term “illegal immigrant” from its official style guidelines and then decreed that no one should use the phrase any longer, seeing as how he believes it is akin to saying “negro” to describe a black person.
“You can never use the expression ‘illegal alien’ again,” the radio host said to his colleague Bill O’Reilly. “It is a pejorative. It’s like saying ‘negro’ or ‘homosexual.’ It is a loaded term that doesn’t accurately describe.”
“Why don’t you just give me a list of things I can say?” O’Reilly pushed back.
“Illegal aliens” and “Bible thumping” are two things you cannot say, Rivera quipped in reference to his Fox’s colleague’s controversial remarks about the religious opponents of gay marriage.
“I’m not giving into this stuff. You’re crazy,” O’Reilly replied. “If somebody’s in here and breaks our immigration laws, they’re an illegal alien.”
“They’re not an illegal alien,” the host concluded. “They’re an undocumented immigrant, give them some slack.”

Illegal alien is one I use often and will continue to use. It’s a loaded term? Is murderer a loaded term? Is pedophile a loaded term? I HATE this man. New Jersey deserves another hurricane if they elect this idiot. I’d rather have a Democrat. F*ck Jerry Rivers.

Actually, if we are being intellectually honest, Geraldo is correct. It does imply that the person is somehow “illegal” by their existence. Let us all agree, with Geraldo’s blessing, that we shall henceforth refer to people who are citizens from other nations (aliens) who are on US soil without proper permission or documentation (in violation of our laws): “law-breaking aliens”... or maybe Geraldo will prefer “criminal aliens”... but to give a complete set of appropriate selections, let us also offer the third option of “aliens subject to immediate arrest and deportation”, although that one is a bit clunky and tougher for the poor journalism majors to print or say.
I prefer the term “Mexicans”.

When you get your green card you are officially a permanent resident alien. So if you don’t have a green card you are an illegal alien.

Here is another occasion where the left sets the debate, and sets the lexicon, to box in any opponent. You used to be able to call a spade a spade, but spade took on meaning that had nothing to do with shovels, unless it applies to “Blazing Saddles”, the shining example of how stupid prejudice can become.
