Boehner to GOP: Our Tactical Plan Against Obama Worked

Speaker John Boehner told fellow House Republicans in an Easter week memo that his decision to allow the sequestration cuts to take effect has forced President Barack Obama and the Democrats to confront economic issues they have long been avoiding.

“We forged a new tactical plan that focused on using our limited leverage to maximum effect in support of the reforms needed to support economic growth and job creation for all Americans,” Boehner wrote in the memo distributed to House Republicans on Thursday. …

The memo noted that GOP efforts had forced Senate Democrats to produce their own budget plan for the first time in four years and had made the president focus more attention on the importance of addressing entitlement reforms. But it did not address controversial social issues such as immigration and gun control, which the Senate will debate after Congress returns April 8. …

What’s Boehner’s overlying master srategy?

To let Obama spend enough money and issue enough regulations to destroy the country then say:

“See? I told you he would do this!”

... using our limited leverage......DAMMIT..OUR LEVERAGE IS NOT LIMITED!..It is only "limited" to the extent that the "power of the purse" is not being used. JUST DAMN!

Why did the House let the continuing resolution get out of there without, at the very least, no funding for Obamacare!

If I am wrong or mistaken, I wish someone here would set me straight and tell me exactly why the House could have not cut programs out of continuing resolution, send it on and dare Zer0 to veto, which would "shut down the government"....

Yes, Boehner did score a field goal. Bravo to actually making Dems pass a budget and to holding firm to the one actual spending cut implementation since getting elected. And a bonus was exposed Obama for a total hysterical over-reacting liar. Nice.

But what about defuding Obamacare? Boehner and the leaders in the Senate could have gone to the mat and stripped Obamacare funding from the CR. They whiffed on that.

“There is nothing to declare victory over. nothing. “

Correct. Instead of preening ‘how great are we’ - tell the truth, that this was a fraction of what is needed to stop big govt. Boehener is emphasizing how Republicans are the ‘minority’ which is at least more honest ...

Now look at the Democrat response ...

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi later dismissed the speaker’s comments in a statement saying, “If they don’t have the Congress lurching from manufactured crisis to crisis, then they’re passing gimmicks that do nothing to address the urgent priorities of the American people.”

... wait, its the Democrats who are manufacturing the crisis!

I think it was bigger than you might realize. I don’t think it was a coincidence that the global financial markets ramped up the value of the U.S. dollar on the very day that “sequestration” took effect. All it took was a tiny little indication that Uncle Sam was willing to reduce its outlays in the future, and suddenly we began to look like a model of fiscal responsibility around the world.

Boehner:
You are an idiot and delusional.

This wasn’t your grand strategy and you share the blame for being lazy minded with the spine of a jellyfish....

Thanks Olog-hai.
has forced President Barack Obama and the Democrats to confront economic issues they have long been avoiding
It's known as calling his bluff. So, he headed off to Israel and Jordan, sent "his" daughters skiing in Idaho on the taxpayer dime, and continued to drag his feet on Keystone, while his alleged justice dep't continues to obfuscate, stonewall, and violate the law.

If this is the gentleman’s big “braggable” accomplishment, perhaps it really is time for a new House Speaker.

Then why the Foxtrot did he get re-elected?

Because enough Conservatives refused to vote for Romney and stayed home on election day. That's something Boehner had nothing to do with.

The GOP must be the party that cuts the government down to size with a balanced budget.

The bubble of debt is on its way to bursting.

Paul Ryan and Pat Toomey say they have plans to balance the budget in ten years.

When politicians say they want to do something in ten years, they are telling me they don’t intend to do it.

Rand Paul wants to balance the budget in five years with whole departments being cut.

That’s better, but we need action ASAP.

Five years could be too late frankly.......

Okay how do you bring the budget in line within a year? I’m curious where would you cut?

In other words _Resident JugEars went off in a pout, decided he had better things to do like shoot hoops and thangs with Reggie Love and head off to Israel to personally deliver his nastygram to Netanyahu. To dump his internal theater of funked-upness on the Jews who have enough problems already.

This is an emergency situation. I would go along with cabinet level (Education as example) eliminations, plus add EPA and OSHA.

The answer for liberal whiners on EPA-OSHA is that state agencies exist in those areas, they can take it over.

Don’t let a crisis go to waste, cut EPA and OSHA 100 percent because its an emergency, we have no choice.

Move onto the IRS which can be cut 50 percent, then move onto food stamps which could also be literally cut (there’s a lot of public opinion resentment on that one).

The business and political leaders in the US and Europe keep trying to band aid a bleeding wound with this fix and that.

The debt problem really isn’t going to be solved, we’re heading for big trouble.

I think that’s why the Ryan’s and Toomey’s claim they want to balance the budget in ten years. By then it will be too late.

That's not enough. Sure, you've eliminated a hundred billion or two from our budget. You need to tackle the big ones. Entitlement programs. Defense. All must be cut.

Regarding Defense, do we really need 11 aircraft carriers? We would still be fine with just 6. We would have 4 in action at all times, with 1 in shop with 1 in rest.

However do I really believe Boehner intended from the beginning to go ahead with the sequester? Not at all. I believe they did intend to cave. They deserve credit for not caving on this but excuse me if from day to day I can’t keep up with the number of times they do cave. :-)

This memo's just a CYA. I think he fully intended to cave, but went on a bender the day before the sequester and woke up a day or two afterwards.
