(CNSNews.com) Supreme Court Chief Justice John G. Roberts cousin, a lesbian seeking to get married in California who will have reserved seating for relatives at two upcoming cases, wrote that she believes her cousin will rule in favor of same-sex marriage in an op-ed posted on the National Council for Lesbian Rights.
A spokesperson for the court did not respond to questions about a potential conflict for Roberts.
I know that my cousin is a good man, Jean Podrasky, 48, of San Francisco wrote. I feel confident that John is wise enough to see that society is becoming more accepting of the humanity of same-sex couples and the simple truth that we deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, and equality under the law.
I believe he understands that ruling in favor of equality will not be out of step with where the majority of Americans now sit. I am hoping that the other justices (at least most of them) will share this view, because I am certain that I am not the only relative that will be directly affected by their rulings, she added.

Perhaps that’s the reason this woman is making noises, to harrass and remove Roberts from the case to improve her side’s chances of winning.
I don’t know, but we will all know where Roberts stands in the end.
Whole lot of evolving going on out there.
“Roberts has already shown the Constitution means nothing to him.”
I’m hoping you’re wrong. ObamaCare didn’t go the way I thought but his argument was a good one - and what probably amazed him is that after the decision, people actually voted to re-elect the fool rather than repeal ObamaCare - so in essence he was right. If people for vote for a government that wants to tax them so be it.
I doubt the court will out and out ok same sex marriage... but I think they ok civil unions. I’m hoping they frame marriage as a religious term and take marriage out of the government vocabulary. Marriage is between a man and woman is defined by religion, but civil union can be a dog and a cat if the state wants it to be.
I hear you, it gets old after so many threads..
Get over it!
Roberts may or may not be pro-life but he is anything but conservative; he may also be Catholic but he is obviously pro-homosexual marriage.
If GWB advisors such as Rove, Steve Schmidt, etc. are the ones who advised Bush on Roberts, it's no wonder he's so disappointing and no wonder he's. fraud for conservatives!
I got rid of cable 2 years ago...it’s refreshing. I started reading, way more enjoyable.
“I used to count Roberts as one of the few things GWB did that made me glad I voted for him. That came off the list last year.”
Me too! At the end of the day, Bush, like his worthless father, was a turd in the nation’s punchbowl Besides Ronald Reagan, who can the Republicans point to as a good president? Eisenhower? Tricky Dick? Ford? The Bushes? Then there are the losers” McLame, Dole, and Romney! No wonder we have RAT presidents! When I think of all the needlessly lost young lives and the pissing away of our treasury “in the name of freedom and nation building,” I want to puke!
ping on Roberts
I’m so sick of this homarathon I really do want to puke.
Can’t escape it.
I’m starting to feel like Jack Nicholson’s character in The Shining.
All fags and no straights makes Jack an angry boy.
"Humanity"? That's an opinion, and it ain't mine. Roberts-boy needs also to understand that he has an obligation, under the Constitution, to society as a whole. He needs to understand the historicity of marriage and it's function in all of society.
Unfortunately, people today are brought up to think that what is not specifically written in the Constitution is OK for the government to do, but even words written to protect the people are subject to the whim of interpretation by those wanting to "change" society. It was actually meant the other way around: the government was allowed only what was specifically written for it in the Constitution.
We are on a ever-increasing downward spiral. What will the outcome be?
I hope they all rot in hell.
Is anyone else sick of this same conversation everyday? Amazing how 2.8% of this country are bringing it (the country) to it’s knees literally.
Roberts is a coward. He has proven that as of last year. Don’t expect anything from him.
You will never find a case of a Chassidic rabbi forced to perform inter-faith marriages. Roman Catholic priests have never been forced to perform a re-marriage of divorced individuals to new spouses. Ministers from explicitly racist “churches” are not forced to solemnize inter-racial marriages. All of these are perfect examples of churches being protected by state separation. The state allows for all of these while not requiring dissenting religious organizations to participate in any way.
“Can they force traditional churches to perform gay weddings?”
I really believe after watching the culture for the last decade or so, is the gay marriage agenda is not about gay marriage, but truly as a means to attack the church. So in answer to your question, Yes they can, and Yes they will.
God’s judgement is coming...you can bank on it.
If this continues I fully expect to begin hearing serious calls for secession.
Justice Roberts. The mole in the SCOTUS.
>”Can they force traditional churches to perform gay weddings?”
Yes, that is the goal, to take over the Church and destroy it, to change its moral code. Good is evil and evil is good.
This is not new to our age. It has happened before in history and the consequences are all similar, because human nature does not change.
> “Im sure they WANT to force them to but CAN they?”
Yes they can, else the Church will go under with the litigation thrown against them. Traditional members will need to go underground and hold liturgy, mass and services inside private homes.
A gay couple will file a lawsuit of discrimination against a non-compliant church, the lawsuit must be litigated or else settled in favor of the gay couple. Most churches cannot afford the legal expenses; they will capitulate or close their doors forcing the members to go underground.
Hey, Roberts, grow a backbone. Just because a relative is living the deathstyle does not mean that you have to condone it. One of my cousins died of AIDS, brought on by living the deathstyle. Such are the wages of sin.
