A Norwalk mother says one of the countrys top gun retailers, Cheaper Than Dirt!!, has been sending her underage son gun catalogs after he ordered them online, despite her repeated requests for them to stop.
She says her son is mentally unwell and, since the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary, she is concerned. To protect her family, NBC Connecticut has concealed her identity. For the story, we will call her Amy.
I can't get a gun company to stop sending my 15-year-old son catalogs, Amy said. The things that happened in Newtown are happening in my home. I have a kid with issues, and he's fascinated with guns.
Amy told NBC Connecticut she discovered the first Cheaper Than Dirt! catalog in her mailbox at home in late December, about 10 days after the shooting in Newtown.
I saw there were guns all over the front and flipped it over and I saw it was addressed to my 15-year-old son, she said.
Her son, who has been diagnosed with ADHD and has criteria to be bipolar and sociopathic, told her he had requested it.

Especially plastic soldiers on top of cupcakes!
As a customer, I can personally endorse Cheaper Than Dirt - great prices on ammo!
I’m sure you have a psychosis you’re not telling us about. :)
Assault Catalog?
Did Cheaper Than Dirt do a background check on the kid when he requested the Catalog?
If the kid can surf the Internet, I’m sure he sees a whole lot of stuff worse than pictures of Guns.
Perhaps the idiot Mother should cancel their Internet Access Provider.
This Nation is full of nothing but idiotic whiners looking for their 15 minutes of fame. Me, me, me, just like Obozo.
Sounds like a woman who loves her son and is very responsible.
If I were “Cheaper Than Dirt” (a great outfit BTW) I would make certain no more catalogs were sent.
Let’s send a few prayers up for this good mother and her afflicted son.
Sounds like her kid was sending in multiple catalog requests which is why it was not a simple matter to stop delivery.
People kill people, catalogues don’t.
Gun Retailer Begs Mother to Stop Giving Unfettered Internet Access to Her Mentally Ill Son.
I guess this mom couldn't be bothered. It was just easier to call the news and complain.
I think you nailed it. Not many companies like sending out paper catalogs unless the recipient orders merchandise from them.
We *Nutmeggers* [along w/ the rest of the world] are still awaiting the *report* of the Newtown incident. We’re about to be slammed with all sorts of gun control nonsense this month.
Without any analysis if the Newtown killer’s motives, I’ll take this mother’s *concerns* with a grain of salt. She said she had been successful in keeping the catalogs away from her son. She should continue to monitor. No one said this was easy.
Given the state has eliminated facilities for the mentally ill, released to the streets 3K convicted felons on early release from state prisons...one notion is that parents/care givers of the mentally ill actually hide their subjects from public view for a variety of reasons.
It’s true that families find it difficult to get mental health care for the people who desperately need it. We need reform in mental health care more than gun control.
Yes and h3ll yes! :)
In contrast, I see nothing at all wrong with looking at pictures of guns. They are the means by which freedom and liberty are secured and are an essential part of American history. A responsible parent would use the gun catalog as a means learn about a core foundation of what makes our country great.
Assault Catalogs...assault bullets.
We’re doomed.
Yup, You nailed it with that one sentence! If the kid is dangerous he needs to be under care.
Guns don't fire themselves....we don't need any further weakening of the bill of rights.
As someone uptread said, take away his iPhone and internet access, if you really care.
She somes across to me, as a useful idiot for the anti crowd.
Now that’s what I call sex on the couch! Awesome.
well parents don’t buy any guns for your son from the catalog!
........and be darn sure he doesn’t have any possible access to your gun safe.
