Paul fires back: Sens. McCain, Graham think 'whole world is a battlefield'
The Hill ^ | March 7, 2013 | Daniel Strauss

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) blasted fellow GOP Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Thursday, saying the two “think the whole world is a battlefield.”

Paul criticized the hawkish senators for thinking the laws of war should take precedence over the Bill of Rights. The two had criticized Paul’s statements about drone policy during the Kentucky Republican’s 13-hour filibuster on Thursday.

“They think the whole world is a battlefield including America and that the laws of war should apply,” Paul said in an interview on Fox News about McCain and Graham, who had described Paul’s comments about drones as “ridiculous.”

“The laws of war don't involve due process so when they ask you for an attorney you tell them to shut up. That's not my understanding of the way America works,” Paul told Fox. “I don't think the laws of war apply to America, I think the Bill of Rights do and I think it's a disservice to our soldiers that our senators up there arguing that the Bill of Rights aren't important.

Paul said whether drones can be used against U.S. citizens on U.S. soil is a “very serious question” and was at the root of Wednesday’s filibuster, which delayed a final confirmation vote on John Brennan, President Obama’s nominee to lead the CIA.

“This was a very serious question. It was a question that took a month and a half to get an answer to and I so I would argue and I think a lot of the public would agree with me, both on the right and the left, that what we ask was a very serious question and it's a question that we finally got an answer to,” Paul said.

Attorney General Eric Holder on Thursday responded to Paul in a letter that said the U.S. does not have the authority to conduct a drone attack against a U.S. citizen on American soil.

“Hooray, for 13 hours yesterday we asked them that question. And so there is a result and a victory,” Paul said after the letter was read to him during the Fox interview. “Under duress and under public humiliation the White House will respond and do the right thing.”

The answer just took a filibuster that lasted almost half a day, Paul added.

“So now, after 13 hours of filibuster, we're proud to announce that the president is not going to kill unarmed Americans on American soil,” Paul continued. “My next question is why did it take so long, why is it so hard and why would a president so jealously guard power that they were afraid to say this but I am glad and I think that the answer does answer my question.”

Between August 1992 and April 1994, Clark was commander of the 1st Cavalry Division of the Army’s III Corps at Fort Hood, Texas. According to a report by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the list of military personnel and equipment used at Waco included: 15 active-duty military personnel, 13 Texas National Guard personnel, nine Bradley fighting vehicles, five combat-engineer vehicles, one tank-retrieval vehicle and two M1A1 Abrams tanks. Additionally, Fort Hood reportedly was used for much of the training for the bloody attack on the Davidians and their children.

What makes ANYONE think the Feds will not use overwhelming disregard for civilian casualties to kill a single american having coffee at a coffee shop?

At Waco the Feds attacked twice, the last time with 5 Tanks and 9 Bradley Fighting Vechicles, helos, and all the snipers the FBI could find.......a drone and a missle....CHUMP CHANGE.

The whole world IS a battlefield and the sooner people
realize that the better off they will be.

This conflab is what the GOP gets for not having one real
leader who would cut McCain and Lindsey off at the knees
before they even thought of slamming Rand Paul. What
a shame that these clowns save their vitriole for members
of their own caucas.

My bet is that Holder’s rapid response was solely because
the public tide was just about to wash over the Obama
administration and they figured they would prevent their
own drowning by putting the issue in their rear view mirror.
Obviously McCain and his butt boy were too stupid to
figure it out. These guys are just the kind Republicans that
Democrats love because they punk so easily.

Even in war a government is limited. I am no fan of the Geneva convention for its international stance, but what part of reasonable constitutional consideration on putting a bagging limit do they not understand?

If I hear the liberals correctly then WWII is not over, I guess, or maybe they still are fighting the civil war?
What a bunch of hypocrite wussies.

That’s so strange because I remember how many times he brought up the 30,000 spy drones that would man our skies. He always sounded so upset (rightfully so) when he brought those up. Now that his beloved ruler was more directly questioned, I guess it’s a different story...

I've been busy and didn't have the time to watch or read about McCain. That being said,
I just saw the clip of McCain on the floor and my blood is boiling.

That old gaseous piece of shit ran for POTUS under the guise of reasonable conservatism,
and had that old piece of crap fought this hard against the Democrats
he might have had a prayer. So instead, that old senile punk has decided to attack
anybody against the Democrat machine.

My blood is boiling..

And if Rand Paul thinks we don’t have the right and the duty to use every means to keep this country safe from its enemies, he has no business being in the US Senate.

I'm assuming that you didn't watch the filibuster, or you wouldn't think this. What Senator Paul wanted was confirmation that our government would not use targeted drone attacks on Americans on American soil forfeiting due process. Senator Rand agreed with Senator Durbin that an American on American soil posing an imminent threat was another matter altogether.

Someone whispered in Shep's ear because after his hissy fit, he calmed down and appeared to take the opposite stance with Judge Napolitano. Suddenly, he was throwing a fit that we took out Al Awlaki and his 16 year old son on foreign soil. Complete about face.

If Rand Paul accomplished only one thing, finally making everyone aware of what jackasses McCain and Graham are, he did something good. Please South Carolina take back Graham and elect a real conservative. Graham occasionally makes noise like a conservative, but he and McCain always end up folding.

We would be much better if if they all left Washington and went home.

WE THE PEOPLE would be a lot better off if we started the trials for treason and started hanging and imprisoning the lot of them; that includes the RINO's and useful idiots that have gone along with the insanity.

The “benchmark” leftists that I talk to are far more concerned with abuses by private business owners than they are from the government.

But, as far as I know, nothing has changed in the fact that the government can legally use deadly force to impose its will on you and a private business cannot.

Of course, that argument doesn’t ring a bell with them at all because they START from the assumption of benevolence on the part of the government.

McCain has turned into a self-engrandizing political tool/fool who seems only interested in retaining what diminishing political “power” he has left. He has no runway left and could serve his country best by simply retiring to some quiet place to live out his remaining years in grace.
