The Obama administration denied an appeal for flexibility in lessening the sequester’s effects, with an email this week appearing to show officials in Washington that because they already had promised the cuts would be devastating, they now have to follow through on that.
In the email sent Monday by Charles Brown, an official with the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service office in Raleigh, N.C., Mr. Brown asked “if there was any latitude” in how to spread the sequester cuts across the region to lessen the impacts on fish inspections.
He said he was discouraged by officials in Washington, who gave him this reply: “We have gone on record with a notification to Congress and whoever else that ‘APHIS would eliminate assistance to producers in 24 states in managing wildlife damage to the aquaculture industry, unless they provide funding to cover the costs.’ So it is our opinion that however you manage that reduction, you need to make sure you are not contradicting what we said the impact would be.”

which would it cut?
The drugs for kids, of course. This would cause the most outcry and would lead to their budget NOT being cut.
Whereas if they stopped the cat statues, no one would notice, and people would probably start to question why they were doing it in the first place.

In the past few weeks, Americans have been subjected to a barrage of doomsday predictions regarding the disaster that would befall us should the sequester come to pass. Many were rightly incensed, then, that last Thursday, only one day before the “devastating” sequester cuts were scheduled to kick in, newly appointed Secretary of State John Kerry announced that the Obama administration will be giving $60 million to a group of Syrian rebels fighting Bashsar Assad.
This hypocrisy was quickly followed up with an announcement on Sunday by Kerry that the administration will be giving Egypt’s increasingly anti-democratic Muslim Brotherhood government $250 million in return for promises of economic reform — which will rise to $1 billion if that reform is deemed successful.
BUT....no money for the suffering Americans or economic reformes here. Can't afford it. (Let the slaves eat cake.)
In other words, "You must make it as painful on the American citizens as possible. The more pain inflicted, the better it is for our 2014 campaigns. You have your orders. Make it hurt!"

Wouldn't surprise me in the least to see that this administration is working to increase droughts, wildfires, mudslides, hurricanes, tornado activity, floods, and flu to blame it all on "global climate change caused by industrialization and dependency on fossil fuels".

All for 2.5% of projected spending (?) which only half ($44 billion) of the reduction has to happen this year, vs. what - 3.8 trillion in yearly Federal spending?

I had to laugh when I heard Rush and the Fox talking heads discussing this as the realization...they are stopping just short of what it is...

Has limousines for ‘executives’ in the administration been replaced by taxi cabs? No? How about cutting travel privileges to just coach tickets? Maybe even a cap on the cost of hotel rooms to no more than a massive $100 per day?
No, none of this has happened, or is going to happen. Rather than cut extras that should never have been there in the first place (and the accompanying arrests and convictions for embezzlement), the administration intends to take it out on the workers and the public as much as possible.
What would they say if this was how a private company decided to cut costs against a union workforce? They’d be up in arms, and demand other cuts first. ‘Look at how the executives are holding fancy dinner parties multiple times a week while these line workers are being sent home without pay!’ they’d cry.
But instead, they raise their wine glasses, filled by a servant, the vintage one of the best available, the moment costing enough to pay for a federal worker to stay on the job that day, times however many were granted the privilege of attending.
Conferences in exotic locales, the people not only picking up the tab for that, but for everyone to travel there, for a car to drive around, for meals, for lodging, and maybe just a bit on the side to buy something for a special friend who has an hourly cost.
Rank - amusing sometimes to contemplate how many meanings that word has. An accumulation of honors for a military soldier. Power and privileges for a government employee. A horrible scent, typically emanating from corruption. Rank hath its privileges.
