NBC News Reporter Stops Returning Carnival Cruise Passenger From Quoting Bible
NewsBusters ^

Posted on 02/15/2013 8:19:15 PM PST by chessplayer

As stranded Carnival Cruise passengers began finally disembarking in Mobile, Alabama, late Thursday evening, MSNBC had NBC News correspondent Mark Potter on the scene to speak with them.

One young lady during her over three minute interview tried to cite a Bible verse that helped her get through the ordeal, but Potter pulled his microphone away and quickly ended the discussion (video follows with transcript and commentary):

The MSM hates white Christians. That’s why they do everything possible to marginalize them and keep them off the air.

If she’d thanked her horoscope stars, I bet they would’ve given her as much air as she wanted.

I watched the video the reported did not end the interview after the mother quoted the Bible. He even talked to the little girl and asked her what her favorite verse was.
Then verified that the studio could hear what the people said.

Scroll down to the update and see how Fox News Channel handled a Bible quoting family.

The Holy Scriptures always cause those of the spirit of the antichrist to go freaking out and become totally unglued.

The reporter was probably hyperventilating a short time later.

I don’t believe that is why he turned away.

There are folks who, for some reason, endlessly quote passages from the Bible and seem unable to put forward their own opinions. It’s almost as though they are fearfull of expressing themselves.

It is impossible to talk with someone like that. After the third or fourth recitation, I nod, smile and leave.

If you ever want to scare a liberal away, just recite the bible..works every time..I saw the interview with the family on Fox News last night, a beautiful family..they passed the time by reciting the bible verses, the little girl Julianna has them all practically memorized..the reporter even asked the girl what her favorite verses were..was nice to see

And he didn’t wait for even one before passing that judgment. It’s a perfectly valid thing for a Christian to say that he or she was moved or encouraged by a particular piece of Scripture. NBC was being a total secular-head.

True (though some later posts indicate that this wasn’t the case here); to me media people are somewhere below child molesters but above public school teachers and personal injury attorneys...

“NBC was being a total secular-head.”

No doubt. It is all about ratings and getting that one quote that grabs the public’s attention.

So reporters know what their listeners want to hear - How was the trip? Was it really that awful on the cruise? What about those over flowing toilets?

Nice Christian people quoting the Bible isn’t going to make it on the 6 o’clock everning news. And I doubt that those quoting Buddha or the Koran would make it, either.

At least the news anchors might not think it will, but they are living in their own little solipsistic boxes. There is still a large minority of Americans who would find that an attractive note in a news story.

I don’t think CNN was expecting all the talk about prayers either. And passengers starting Bible study and prayer groups. They looked shocked but didn’t know what to do about it.

I saw this video with the reporter cutting the woman off, but I haven’t seen the one you described. I’ve noticed others mentioning it too. The only link I’ve found that might be for that video was in a format not compatible with this iPad. Do you have a link for the video you described?

There is a reason they are called 'Godless' commies.
MSLSD is ground zero for them in the MSM.

svcw is describing the Fox News interview. The video for that is at the bottom of the linked page. The one we are all talking about, with the two 20 something girls on MSNBC, is the one linked at the top.

I’ll point this out...because I flip between various news channels. In the day prior to the arrival in Mobile...the news guys were interviewing dozens of folks. I would say at least fifty percent had a southern accent, and noted some religious comments (prayer groups, having faith, feeling God would watch over them).

The comical side of this was only one channel that generally flowed with the comments (Fox News). For CNN, MSNBC, HLN, etc....you could tell they were uncomfortable and they attempted to end the interview within sixty seconds.

Now, it may be that southern folks just have an enormous amount of faith in life, and it’s just Carival’s luck to have a bunch of those folks on board.

It sounds like it was this woman’s having her Bible with her on the cruise that helped her endure the long ordeal & gave her both strength and hope.

Now we can’t have THAT message getting out over the airwaves, can we? /s

On this iPad, the video at the bottom of the page doesn’t work. It must be a different format. I’ve been trying to find that video in a format compatible with this iPad, but I give up.

Yes, it is strange. Now I’m on a PC, and I’m able to watch both videos. They look like exactly the same format. For what ever reason, on the iPad the video at the bottom just appears as a black rectangle that does nothing.

Now I see what everybody’s been talking about. What a striking contrast in reporting.

Normally love Newsbusters, but this is overblown. This wasn't a major story, so at some point a reporter would have to cut short an overally talkative person based on time constraints.

There is really no evidence here to assume or ascribe the worst motivations to the reporters actions.
