But, really, not so much in my lifetime. The government schools have almost willfully moved away from any techniques that might lead to success. Getting God out of the classroom was their first really big mistake.
DITTO. 1900 US had about 100 million people, 80 percent were poor (factory laborers or farmer), 20 percent cannot read, only 6 percent grad high school, women and people of color were not equally treated, no gun laws, yet ..... entire number of people murdered in the entire US for that year was only 230. The city of Chicago in 2012 had over 500 murders. I always challenge liberals to figure out what Americans did in 1900 that is different from today to have such a low murder rate.
I don't believe it. I think people turned out OK in spite of schooling.
Take at hazard one hundred children of several educated generations and one hundred uneducated children of the people and compare them in anything you please; in strength, in agility, in mind, in the ability to acquire knowledge, even in moralityand in all respects you are startled by the vast superiority on the side of the children of the uneducated. Leo Tolstoy, "Education and Children" (1862)
It takes missing faith sometimes to teach people how to appreciate it.
